Doctor Who: The PodKast with a K

Well, it had to be done - the Kasterborous podKast team got together at the weekend to discuss The Time of the Doctor and offer their thoughts on whether Matt Smith's #DoctorWho finale was a hit or a miss.Our decision? Well, it's not quite Time and the Rani, but it would seem that we weren't as happy with it as we might have hoped to be...

This week, we set our sights on Christmas Day and Matt Smith's sad departure from #DoctorWho. It is, indeed, The Time of the Doctor, and there is much to discuss...Also, look out for news of Brian Terranova's new Doctor Who/Torchwood fan film series as well as the latest on our Daleks' Master Plan graphic novel and our usual recommendations. We also take a look back at 2013 and our favourite Doctor Who moments from the last 12 months (with one stipulation: no 50th anniversary stuff).

This week’s podKast (with a “K”) gets in an early celebratory mood for Christmas with a selection of recommendations, a chat about Brian Terranova’s latest Sonic Screwdriver prop and a look at new iPhone/Android game #DoctorWho: Legacy, in a section that also chats with the game’s developers.

This week we opted to record live on Thursday evening instead, using Google Hangouts. Although a podKast was "recorded" on Monday, it wasn't actually recorded, something that James and Brian were naturally somewhat unhappy about. So this second attempt was a way for them to try and recall the best bits with Christian also offering his own thoughts and experiences of the week of #DoctorWho.Along with various post-50th anniversary details, you'll also hear how mild-mannered Kasterborous editor Christian Cawley was mistaken for someone "looking for a good time" outside the BBC Tees building in Middlesbrough...

In our continuing but loosely-defined run up to the #DoctorWho 50th anniversary, we cast our minds back 10 years in this week's podKast to the 40th anniversary. Yes, there was a 40th anniversary of our favourite show, but you'd be hard-pressed to recall anything particularly significant about it.Christian Cawley, James McLean and Brian Terranova give it a go, however, mentioning Big Finish audio Zagreus, Scream of the Shalka and even 35th anniversary novel The Infinity Doctors by Lance Parkin.

The possibility of yet more #DoctorWho missing episodes being unveiled has tickled the podKast team and so this week Christian Cawley and James McLean discuss the current rumours concerning the BFI and Marco Polo, as well as spending a few moments to reflect upon the amazing story behind Philip Morris.

This week the podKast team cast their eyes over the ridiculously brilliant #DoctorWho 50th anniversary trailer that aired last Saturday evening.Musing over the quality of the body doubles, voice over work, the intricacies of the various props that were included and the prospect of a seeing a 3D version.

This week's podKast, "PodKast with some Animated Recons" discusses the BBC's use of animation to reconstruct missing episodes.Over the past few years, BBC Worldwide have released several Doctor Who DVDs from the classic era with animated episodes to replace those lost to time. These have been well received on the whole, but we thought we'd mull over some of the differences in approach from the animators, in amongst discussing some of the recent 50th anniversary and Christmas special news.
