Jonathan Watts is a British journalist serving as the global environment editor of The Guardian. Based in the Amazon town of Altamira, Pará state, he is one of the cofounders of Sumauma, an independent news agency specialized in reporting from the Amazon. He has also reported from the Antarctic, Arctic, Amazon and several COP summits for The Guardian, covering, as he says, "a lot of grim stuff I wish wasn't happening and interviewing a lot of great people trying to stop it". Between 2012 and 2017, Watts was The Guardian's Latin America correspondent, when he interviewed political figures such as Brazilian presidents Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff and Bolivian president Evo Morales, among other political leaders of the region.
