Guarding your heart involves guarding your words - being careful not to speak perverse or corrupt things that distort the truth. Guarding your heart also involves guarding your eyes and where you allow your gaze to linger, as what you focus on can shape your desires and contentment. Guarding your heart requires being intentional about the places you go and the situations you put yourself in, avoiding temptation and areas of weakness. Insecurities can arise from both false standards and legitimate gaps between what God calls us to and our own abilities, which we must trust God to fill. The words we say to ourselves, whether affirming or self-deprecating, have a powerful impact on how we see ourselves and live our lives.
