SUMMARY The speaker and his wife Brittany went to western North Carolina to help with disaster relief efforts after Hurricane Helene hit the area. They initially went to find a friend but ended up being called to help in the community of Pensacola, which was completely cut off and in desperate need of assistance. They organized relief efforts at the local fire station, providing supplies, medical care, and emotional support to the devastated community. They faced challenges like disaster tourism, theft, and distrust of outsiders, but worked to remove non-essential barriers and show the love of Christ. They partnered with a local church, Mine Creek Baptist, to set up long-term shelters and aid for the community. The experience taught them about the importance of serving others, the power of compassion, and the centrality of one's relationship with God when everything else is stripped away.
