General Emmet Burns returns home after the Civil War and is reinstated as his town's Sheriff.  When a freak accident renders him blind, he struggles to serve out his term with the help of his able Deputy, Prentice Bell, until the town's next election.  But holding the war-torn community together one last time is tou
