In 2001, Mohammed Elkhamissy found himself a new graduate in the wake of 9/11 and unable to get a job. He had grown up playing soccer competitively and had initially thought he would go on to play professionally. When that didn’t come to fruition and he found himself unemployable as a Middle Eastern American in a post-9/11 world, he began reaching out to connections. He wound up working for a construction company and discovered that he had an affinity for the business. He now lives in Qatar and runs one of the top construction companies in the region.  Though Mohammad had achieved a lot of material success, when he discovered that his young daughter had been diagnosed with cancer, everything he had prioritised to that point vanished. He found that it didn’t matter how great his car was or how successful he was.
