This mix is a trip back to the sound of the Manchester Gay Village dancefloors during the early and mid 2000s. Funky Village Classics Vol 1 brings together a collection of funky house tracks that were regular favourites across the bars and clubs around Canal Street. These were the tracks that filled the dancefloor, from early evening sets through to late night moments when the whole place was singing along. Expect uplifting vocals, strong basslines and the kind of funky house grooves that defined that era of the Village scene. I spent many years DJing on the Manchester scene, and these are some of the records that were always guaranteed to work with the crowd.
