The whole tenor of the sermon series (being “poured out”) is exemplified in these commands of Jesus. Forgiveness, or the lack of forgiveness, is an issue that really keeps out the grace of God in our lives. This is what Jesus is talking about when He says “if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins”. It is not an eye for an eye mentality, rather, because we have been forgiven so much (our own sins), we should be ready to forgive others with the same compassion. If we don’t, the grace of God is more difficult to be seen in our lives.
