In this episode of Brazil Unfiltered, James Naylor Green speaks with Leonardo Avritzer. Leonardo is a Full Professor in the Department of Political Science at the Federal University of Minas Gerais. He is the author of many books, including Democracy and the Public Space in Latin America, Participatory Institutions in Democratic Brazil, and A inovação democrático no Brasil. He is currently the president of the Brazilian Political Science Association. Since 2018, Leonardo coordinates the Election Observatory, which brings together political scientists to gather empirical data on the electoral process in Brazil, as well as the Participatory Democracy Project. Brazil is going through turbulent times. There’s never been a more important moment to understand Brazil’s politics, society, and culture.
