Both criminals had need, but saw Jesus, both were dying, yet one perished hardened in his sins and the other experienced forgiveness and eternal life. Christ divides the world.

"The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5). Every one of Jesus' sufferings were for our benefit. Primarily Jesus died to deal with our sin and to save us, but the Bible also teaches that the scourging He underwent was for our healing. "It is the blessing of the LORD that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow to it." (Proverbs 10:22). Many Christians have struggled with the idea of prosperity, viewing it as a worldly and selfish concept in a world full of poverty.
