"Stella. A Life" is a provocative drama based on the true story of Stella Goldschlag, who betrayed hundreds of fellow Jews to the Gestapo from 1943 until the end of the war. Stella is a young German Jew who grows up in Berlin during the Nazi regime. She dreams of a career as a jazz singer, but her dreams are dashed when she is forced into hiding with her parents. She builds a risky life for herself and works with a passport forger. As a result of betrayal, Stella is caught and tortured by the Gestapo. She becomes a so-called “grabber” to save herself and her parents from being deported to Auschwitz. She is forced to systematically betray other Jews and tragically goes from victim to perpetrator. The film gets under your skin. Director Kilian Riedhof explains in an interview what he wants to achieve with this film.
