Findings included the effect of specialized rapid response teams on serious complications like cardiac arrest and respiratory failure, the ability of neonates to ventilate on Neurally Adjusted Ventilatory Assist, or NAVA, and research on the improved prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia.

Host Dr. Jason Birnholz talks with Dr. Stamatia Destounis, associate clinical professor of radiology at the University of Rochester, and a practicing radiologist at the Elizabeth Wende Breast Care Center in Rochester, New York. Dr. Destounis presented a paper entitled "The Role of Ultrasound Elastography for Differentiating Benign from Malignant Breast Lesions: Can Benign Result Biopsies Be Reduced?"

Host Dr. Jason Birnholz talks with Dr. Rozemarijn Vliegenthart, from the University Medical Center Groningen in the Netherlands, who presented at the conference a paper entitled, "High Prevalence of Treatable Severe Coronary Artery Disease: Findings in a Randomized Controlled Trial in Cardiac Asymptomatic Peripheral Arterial Disease Patients." Dr. Birnholz also sits down with Dr. Asim F. Choudhri, from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, to talk about tele-radiology and smartphones.

    Host: Jason Birnholz, MD This program features Dr. David Cosgrove, professor of clinical ultrasound, Imperial College School of Medicine, and honorary consultant in radiology at the Hammersmith Hospital in London. He is an expert in ultrasound, known around the world, and is the author of numerous publications. He speaks with host Dr. Jason Birnholz about a new form of ultrasound imaging— elastography, or sheer wave imaging — for detecting breast cancer. Next, Dr. Birhnolz sits down with Dr. Michelle Brown, associate professor of radiology at the University of California, San Diego. She is presenting research on detection of placenta accreta using MRI. The incidence of placenta accreta has increased ten-fold since 1950, as the incidence of the primary risk factor, cesarian section, has also increased. These interviews were recorded at the Radiological Society of North America's 95th Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, which took place November 29th through December 4th in Chicago.

    Vice President Joe Biden, alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Dr. David Blumenthal, the Obama administration's National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, leads this roundtable discussion on healthcare reform and the need to ‘modernize the system' with broad implementation of electronic health records (EHRs). Hosted by Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago on August 20, 2009, the discussion ranges from the keys to improving the coordination of care through EHRs, to enhancing patient safety and reducing privacy concerns, to promoting vital cost and effectiveness measures across the spectrum of care. Vice President Biden announced the availability of $1.2 billion in federal grants for electronic health record systems. The funding comes from the $787 billion stimulus package passed earlier this year.
