Miracle Moment – A Mothers' Story The prognosis for baby Crew Bornstine was one to two years of life. So, does it get any better for a parent when suddenly the 15-month old Crew was moving, eating without a feeding tube, rolling over, and doing all the other activities that he had not been able to do in his young life. The diagnosis that had been given to Crew's parents, Kendra and Eric Bornstine, was Mitochondrial disease. A disease that causes debilitating physical, developmental, and cognitive disabilities with symptoms including poor growth; loss of muscle coordination; muscle weakness and pain; seizures; vision and/or hearing loss; gastrointestinal issues; learning disabilities; and organ failure. Miracle Moment – great moments in sacrificial love. Maximilian Kolbe took a step out of line, walked up to the Commandant and asked that he be killed instead of another prisoner. What was he thinking? Who does that? For some, denying self and doing the 'right thing', comes so easily. They do for others because it's just part of their DNA. It's the kind of love for others that Jesus talked about. 'Love one another as I have loved you.' I have two beautiful examples of sacrificial love. In one case, a saint. Maximilian Kolbe, a priest, who calmly walked up and requested to take the place of another prisoner who had been sentenced to starving to death while being held in a German concentration camp during World War II. The other example, is 15-year-old Lauren Cain. She not only took the confirmation name of Maximilian Kolbe, but demonstrated at age eight that sacrificial love connects us to Jesus in a most perfect way, no matter the age. Miracle Moment Pamela Madden has diminishing vision because of Stargardt Disease. It is a degenerative retinal disorder that has dimmed the lights, so to speak, and taken away Pamela's peripheral vision. While riding in to her first healing service with her friend, Carol, and Dr. Nemeh volunteer, Jay Berkeley, she was praying for Dr. Nemeh and fully expecting that something good would happen with her vision.
