  • MMA #65 Andy Gibney: Evolution

    13/09/2017 Duración: 45min

This shows star is a bit of an enigma, he's an accomplished writer, raconteur, martial artist, motivational speaker, NLP expert and generally awesome individual.. but enough about me, let's talk about who I'm chatting too.. LOL as they say in cyber space.. these adjectives can also be used as labels for my guest this episode. I first became aware of this gent back in the late '80s from some of the articles he wrote for some of the various martial arts magazines that were ridiculously successful back in the day. He was the first guy I actually read about in regard to martial arts and Neurolinguistic Programming and that led me down a very interesting path personally.. I've been after this guy for years as a guest and I should mention we speak very fondly about Sifu Richard Bustillo in this show, and this was literally days before news of his untimely passing. I don't usually dedicate shows, but this is an exception .. I'd like to dedicate this to not only Sifu Richard, but to the other star of the show.. a man

  • MMA #64 Jon Bouley: Law Enforcement

    29/08/2017 Duración: 25min

The star of this show is my dear friend, and along with past guest Ryan Reynolds(no, not that one!) one of my landlords when I'm in Minneapolis..Mr Jon Bouley! But that's not the reason he's the guest on this episodes show, it's the fact he's an awesome martial artist and has a terrific outlook on training and life in general. In the time I've known him, he's gone from a tall, slender Thai boxer to a guy who looks like what would happen if Moby had a child with a brick shit house. The guy is stacked! We talk about his training regimen, his relationship with his training and how its affected his life in general. Along with his wife Aimee, he's an absolutely awesome example of the real benefits of training and the power of the fellowship that training brings. I hope listening to this will make you realise that through the mechanism of martial arts you can find that friendship can transverse continents, you can find relationships in the most unlikely places and that sometimes a disagreement in views is never a r

  • MMA #63 Tony Pillage: Farewell Tour

    15/08/2017 Duración: 33min

The picture sums up just what a scoundrel this shows guest is... Tony Pillage is actually the only person to warrant a 2nd show in the history of the micks martial arts podcast. In this episode we sit down and basically try to figure out how surreal it is that we are conversing normally whilst discussing how the spectre of cancer looms over his life. Tony's been a polarising character from the first moment he burst on to the martial arts scene, never shying away from the facts in regard to his history or skill level.. he kept with it and his skill level started to try and catch up with the gargantuan personality... I've personally always said to anyone who knocked him, "meet him first, then tell me your opinion". He's been very public with his battle with cancer and as we discuss on the show, he's in no way ready to roll over just yet. I've often said Tony's like marmite.. I'm hoping this show will be to your taste.. and if not, wash your mouth out afterwards!!! To get more episodes head to http://www.abrupta

  • MMA #62 Kevin Mills: Hard or Smart?

    01/08/2017 Duración: 01h05min

Now this guy's a real piece of work, a truly legit pioneer of not just kempo karate, but one of the really few legit 'old school' guys left! Kempo Kevin Mills. A direct lineage to Grandmaster Ed Parker himself, an unsurpassed understanding of body mechanics, an award winning author and a great advert for the health benefits of martial arts. Factor in the fact he's one of the only guys I've ever met that stuck with the first art he started, then he's worth listening too... this was actually longer than we expected it to be, I stopped the tape, Kevin came out with more wisdom so the tape went back on again ! Sit back and enjoy .... I certainly did! To get more episodes head to http://www.abruptaudio.com and hit the more episodes button. • MMA #61 Gavin Mulholland: Traditionalist

    18/07/2017 Duración: 44min

One of the longest podcasts there's been in ages, all thanks to Gavin Mulholland. A traditional karate man who shunned UFC and can scare people away just with his eyes. Plus, if that wasn't enough, he's a former Irishman like Mick! To get more episodes head to http://www.abruptaudio.com and hit the more episodes button. • MMA #60 Mo Teague: Believer

    04/07/2017 Duración: 33min

Mo is one of those guys who's been around forever! I mean that in the best possible ways course, I first became aware of Mo in the days of Martial Arts Illustrated magazine as a Jkd guy, guardian angel, reality based instructor and ex soldier. I then met Mo on the seminar circuit where he had his own unique take on what constituted actual conflict on today's streets. Ironically, this interview was just after the Westminster bridge attack, and Mo gave me a flyer he'd had printed up regarding training towards surviving a terrorist attack. Listen to Mo and his views on everything from training to everyday life and everything in between. Now if only he'd hit Danny Dyer more I'd have been a happier man! • MMA #59 Tim Tokarz: Pumpkin King

    20/06/2017 Duración: 27min

I first met the Benjamin Button of martial that is Tim Tokarz in Duluth Minnesota in 2012, first thing that hit me was how a sickeningly handsome character could've kept his boyish looks in the fight game for so long. Tim is an awesome martial artist, coach and has coached some seriously impressive mma fighters, including Clay 'The carpenter' Guida. Equally impressive for me was seeing Tim with his family and seeing what I consider the mark of someone with real character, the sight of seeing someone square jawed enough to be in an avengers movie being used as a climbing frame by his daughters and going off to have a Disney day at the mall of America is truly something to behold. A guy who's managed to get the balance in life... The Pumpkin King himself... Tim Tokarz To get more episodes head to http://www.abruptaudio.com and hit the more episodes button. • MMA #58 Peter Hetrick: Protector Of All

    06/06/2017 Duración: 30min

This shows guest was somebody I knew before I ever actually met him, now I know that doesn't really make sense to some, but if you've ever met someone who's as larger in life than most then you'll know where I'm coming from.. this gentleman was the brains behind the legendary lake Owen martial arts camp in Wisconsin , which in turn morphed into the equally legendary MKG summer camp. There's not many who'd have the courage to put on a camp with some of the worlds best martial artists, financed by themselves, and all because they fancied hanging out with cool people. He's a guy who's easily one of the best martial artists I know, one of the coolest people I know, and being one of the lone star states finest one of the most larger than life people I know, then again everything's bigger in Texas! Ladies and gentlemen I give you the one and only Mr Peter Hetrick. To get more episodes head to http://www.abruptaudio.com and hit the more episodes button. • MMA #57 Scott Caldwell: Growing Up

    23/05/2017 Duración: 29min

After 36 years in training, Scott Caldwell sits down with Mick and talks all things I first became of this gentleman due to a story I thought was an urban legend, he'd been employed as a body guard by a well known martial artist, the identity of whom I've never found out. I then met him on a number of occasions through our mutual friend Russell Jarmesty, like Russ another larger than life character and a force of nature more than man! During our first couple of meetings this enigmatic individual said I was one of the only guys 'he couldn't weigh up', we've since discovered that it was a case of one shark meeting another and not realising it wasn't a mirror! They say that inside every person that there's the internal battle between good versus evil, so it's actually reassuring to meet someone who's prepared to admit that the devil gets to hold sway over them most of the time.. yep, it's the caged devil himself.. Mr Scott Caldwell. To get more episodes head to http://www.abruptaudio.com and hit the more episode

  • MMA #56 Fabio Morescalchi: Teacher & Reluctant Celebrity

    09/05/2017 Duración: 21min

I first met Professor Fabio at the Minnesota Kali group and it was actually there where I first decided I would train in Bjj seriously. I met Fabio through the one and only Mike Duffy and immediately we became fast friends. Fabio is a self confessed mat rat and is in my opinion one of the best Bjj teachers I've seen. He's also a big fan of manga and a fine ale... now if that's not enough credibility in one man than I'm afraid there's no pleasing you! Sit back and enjoy listening to his mat musings. • MMA #55 Chad Breske: Nerds, Geeks and Martial Artists

    25/04/2017 Duración: 22min

Where do I start in describing this shows guest? Well, he's one of those guys that makes you realise you are indeed getting older as when I first met him he was literally just out of university and is now the same age as I was when we first met.. he's ageing better trust me! He's a world class teacher, friend, comic book aficionado, nerd and intellectual.. who's as at home talking computer science, science fiction or the film Wierd science. An absolute talent physically, a teacher par excellence and a really cool guy.. ladies and gents Mr Chad Breske. • MMA #54 Marcus Charles: Guru, Sifu, Coach...

    11/04/2017 Duración: 29min

I first became aware of Marcus Charles through Facebook, although we'd never met we had so much in common, a love of Martial arts, JKD,CSW and Kali in particular, Boxing and Boxer dogs! Marcus is an JKD/Kali Weapons and Self-Defense Instructor. He has taught various Military, Law Enforcement, and civilian agencies. Marcus has been training and teaching since the age of 20. He fell in love with physical fitness at the age of 16 afer seeing and reading about Arnold Schwarzenegger. His love of bodybuilding changed to martial arts after reading an article in Muscle and Fitness magazine about Arnold's admiration of Bruce Lee. Living on the Southside of Chicago and being a security bouncer for many years, Marcus has had many encounters where he has had to defend himself. Marcus' goal for his students is to combine the athletic training of MMA with the Self-Defense drills of various arts to make his students grow to their full potential. 16/01/2017 Duración: 23min

This weeks guest is literally the youngest looking bearded martial artist I've ever met... and an absolutely outstanding one at that. One of the first guys I had met that realised the power of YouTube to showcase his skills and the art of Kali. A real physical talent and thinker, with a lineage that includes a real life ninja... well, as real as a ninja was to many of us back in the day, Sensie Tadashi Yamashita, yep.. the guy from the movies and the man that threw Erik Paulson off a gantry in American Ninja 3 and then fixed him again! If there was to be a movie of his life it would literally have to be the late John Wayne...(apologies Ben Affleck, you've not enough cojones) playing him, that's the gravitas this man exudes. A real life war hero, a man of integrity, honour and wisdom.. and the only Green Beret I know with 2 degrees, well the only Green Beret I know... Mr Anthony Ciccesse! If you've ever wondered what a well read special forces soldier sounds like, then wonder no more.. • MMA#50 Atticus Todd: Hitting Hollywood

    28/10/2016 Duración: 37min

  • MMA#48 Jason Lewis: Whattaman!

    14/10/2016 Duración: 35min

This weeks guest actually should come with a government health warning.. After myself, he's easily one of the best looking guys in martial arts, 6ft 3" tall, 260lbs and with dulcet tones that make you think that he's got a future doing audiobooks for Mills & Boon... Seriously though, a wonderful guy with a unique look on life, martial arts and the current state of events in the world today. Hope you enjoy listening as much as I did chatting with this great guy..
