Welcome to Episode 39 of Among Women “Espresso Shot” – a short strong coffee break of faith sharing and teaching from Pat Gohn. Today’s topic: The Beatitudes – “Blessed are the meek.” In this espresso shot, I examine the third Beatitude from Matthew 5:5: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.” This podcast examines continues to explore the inspiration we have in Jesus with respect to the Beatitudes as it applies to meekness — often not a popular position to take, if one looks at the modern world. But Jesus’ words are almost always countercultural and with his words we look at how we experience meekness as Christians. It is both a call to trust and rely on God, and to serve others. Finally we see how this beatitude is one that even great saints have struggled with — but they made it heaven! So, we close with a prayer from the heart of St. Thérèse of Lisieux (listed below). Today’s topic: Praying, Sacrificing, and Reparation In this espresso shot, I focus on the prayers of the Angel at Fatima to the visionaries … which have great power to help heal the church and the world, and, us.   We see and experience trouble in the world, trouble in the Church … this is a deep call for Catholics to do the heaving lifting in terms of prayer, sacrifice, and reparation for the love of Jesus, for the conversions of those who are far from him, and to offer reparation for the sins and offenses against the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. (Here’s an informative video about reparation and Eucharistic devotion, including a conversation with the recently deceased, Fr. Andrew Apostoli, an expert on this subject. Today’s topic: Devotions for Days of the Week After 12 installments on the monthly devotions that the Church calls us to, I felt remiss in not discussing that the Church also recommends different devotions for the days of the week. These are recommended by me — not to give you more “to do.” They are recommended to help us respond to Christ in ways that might be in sync with our daily calendars. So, if its something you’ve never done before, start small and see how it goes. No pressure from me or the Church in this regard … I’m just offering suggestions for what may prove helpful. In November we are called to pray for the holy souls — the faithful departed — as they move toward purification and the perfection of Heaven. While the Church does has All Souls day as a memorial, traditionally on Nov. 2 every year, the truth is that the entire month is dedicated to praying for souls.
