This week Woody & the Beast welcome Dr. Patty Evans, a therapist who is Kink Aware and recognizes that BDSM, Polyamory, Swinging and other alternative sexual and lifestyle practices are part of the normal sexual spectrum, and is able to distinguish healthy sexual play from non-consensual abuse. Kink Aware Therapists (KAT) have additional post graduate training about alternative sexual expression via, books, articles, continuing education, seminars, websites, etc. KATs are aware what constitutes safe and unsafe play (acknowledging of course that different people have different standards for that). KATs are aware of the roles and role expectations of those who participate in alternative sexual expression lifestyles. Patsy Evans has been an active advocate and Kink Aware Professional for the alternative lifestyle communities for more than a decade. She is also a public speaker and activist for the sexual positive culture and freedom movement.

This week Woody & the Beast welcome, Laura LeMoon, a sex work advocate in the Seattle area. Laura earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Women’s studies at Mills College in California and began her career in research authoring a pilot study on violence in the lives of Sex Workers of all genders at a nonprofit peer-based medical clinic for Sex Workers in San Francisco. Laura has worked as an ethnographer for the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance run nationally via the Centers for Disease Control, which is focused around HIV and high risk populations. Currently she is working as a Disease Research & Intervention Specialist on the National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS), which this year focuses on HIV risk and women who exchange sex. She is also the co-founder of a Sex Workers’ collective in Seattle that works to provide harm reduction services to street-based Sex Workers on one of Seattle’s last remaining “strolls.”

#151 - December 23, 2016 - Susan Wright (NCSF) - Sex & Politics This week Woody & the Beast chat with Susan Wright, on the topic of our kinky freedoms in the upcoming political climate. Susan founded the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom in 1997, and currently serves as spokesperson. Susan has presented over a hundred seminars for professional organizations, Universities and community groups on discrimination against kinky people, BDSM vs. Abuse, and the media influence on the persecution of alternative sexuality. Susan has also conducted several surveys documenting discrimination and violence against BDSM practitioners as well as consent practices and attitudes. She directed the successful DSM-5 Revision Project that helped convince the American Psychiatric Association to depathologize consensual BDSM behaviors in 2013, and she coordinated the SM Policy Reform Project for the National Organization for Women (NOW) which resulted in rescinding their anti-SM policy at their national conference in
