Have you ever had a time in your life where you were looking forward to a trip, event, or a meet up with some old friends and then something happens where what you had planned to do gets postponed? How did you feel afterwards? Sad. Discouraged. Bummed.Its always hard when you had your heart set on something then to have it get postponed can make you feel really down. Now imagine postponing something much more important than a trip, an event, or a meet up. Imagine postponing your purpose for which you were created. The core of who we are is nestled in our hearts. Our decisions, moral compass and more live within our hearts. If our hearts are out of line, then so is the rest of our lives. As some of you know with older, "well-loved" cars, some things just don't work. In this truck, the gas gauge didn't work. I got stranded on the side of the road several times until I finally learned this lesson - always have the gas tank full so I wouldn't have to worry.The same lesson applies to our obedience and faith. God will only take us as far as we're obedient. Is your obedience tank full? Have you ever talked yourself out of something because you saw only the problems? Buying a car but its too expensive, taking the job but the commute is too long, dating that girl but she has a past, etc,. Maybe you’ve let others talk you out of something as well because they too saw only the problems. The worst thing is that you can actually talk about something so much that you actually miss the fact that you didn’t do anything. February 18th 1952 New England was battered by the most brutal nor’easter in years. Two oil tankers split in half leaving 84 men stranded. Captain Bernie Webber and three other men set out in the storm to rescue as many men as they could in a 36 foot Coast Guard rescue boat. The small crew was able to rescue 32 men. The story of the Bible is really a story of an epic rescue mission with eternal proportions. Do you have a favorite child? I know what you are thinking, “what a horrible thing to ask.” If we are all honest I think there are times we prefer one child over another but by and large we love all our children equally without playing favorites. There some things we know its fine to have favorites and then there are other times when favoritism is plays a negative factor in our work, lives, and in our church. Have you ever said to someone or maybe someone has said this to you, “Take a long hard look in the mirror?” We are trying to get the person to do more than take a casual glance at the themselves.
