The people you choose to associate with, alter your life. That's why you need to be careful of who you hang around and be careful of who you associate with because you must guard who pours into your life. Don’t let just anyone come in and start placing things or speaking things into your life; guard your heart, guard your mind, guard your soul. Pastor John explores how the phrase “Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.” isn't just a repeated quote by well intentioned parents, but it is actually a Biblical concept that we all need to keep present.

We have this idea that if we all love Jesus, we are going to live in a Utopia where everybody gets along. There is no doubt that our relationship with Christ should increase our patience and we should be willing to sacrifice personal preference and defer to other brothers and sister, and yet there are going to be moments where deeply held convictions are going to clash.

Fear is a reality for a lot of us. Fear often ends up being the driving force behind our decision making. While a life of "no fear" might be impossible, we can learn to look fear in the face and still take that step forward.

The 16th Chapter of Romans is the last chapter in Paul’s Magnum Opus. His greatest gift to us. His masterpiece. The book of Romans is the book of books in the Bible. The 16th chapter is easy to overlook. It’s a list of greetings to people with hard to pronounce names. After reading through the weightiness of the first 15 chapters, Chapter 16, feels like an insignificant, easy to skip list of personal salutations. But if you skip it you miss looking through a window into the soul of the early church. It gives you a glimpse of what life was like when Christianity was in its purest form before it was stained by institutions, politicians, egos, heresies and religious corruption. There's a major issue in our culture - an issue that has also horribly infiltrated the church. There's this idea that an individual's mistakes are always someone else’s fault. Everybody seems to have this need to blame someone else. Very few people are willing to take responsibility for their actions or own up to their wrongs. The unwillingness to be real and authentic with ourselves, with God and with people, entered our DNA when the first man and woman fell. It became a part of us, and since then we have been hiding, lying, running, blaming, and covering up simply to protect ourselves, our reputations, and our images. When you blame others you give up the power to change and there lies one of the greatest dangers of the blame game. The apostle Paul joined these two extremes in his letter to the Philippians. Here’s what he said: Philippians 3:10-11 TLB 10 Now I have given up everything else—I have found it to be the only way to really know Christ and to experience the mighty power that brought him back to life again, and to find out what it means to suffer and to die with him. 11 So whatever it takes, I will be one who lives in the fresh newness of life of those who are alive from the dead.
