1994: The Album
23/10/2014 Duración: 01h34minGrowing up in 1994 I remember thinking that I was living in the greatest year of music EVER. I also thought that using my summer vacation to make a four-and-a-half hour homemade gangster movie was an artistic triumph. Twenty years later, I’m still convinced of the former. (One out of two ain’t bad, right?) Looking back, 1994 was the most pop-culturally rich year of my life. It probably didn’t hurt that I was a teenager coming of age musically. Kurt Cobain’s suicide left behind a huge void, but the creative landscape Nirvana helped cultivate left the world of music in good hands—at least for the next few years. ----more---- 1994 was the perfect intersection of time between a thriving, artistic, free-thinking music scene and the watered-down version of it which would happen when record labels thought they could manufacture the next Nirvana, Pearl Jam, or Green Day. Besides alternative rock, hip-hop had a strong foothold in ’94. A handful of acts that would dominate the end of the decade sprouted up in this

Nirvana: The Mix-Tape
21/11/2013 Duración: 01h16minEven though Nirvana is one of my all-time favorite bands, it had been a while since I binged on their music. The 20th Anniversary release of In Utero changed that. Listening to those songs again, as well as various b-sides, remixes, and live tracks, dropped me back into the heart of the '90s, long before conversations about Nirvana sounded like revered summations of Abraham Lincoln's presidency and images of the band were generically doomed to hang in guitar megastores and music-themed restaurant chains. Yes, back in the Alternative 1990's we were aware of the band's greatness and importance, but besides being greatly important and/or importantly great, time has seemingly forgotten that Nirvana was a scrappy-garage-feminist-punk band with a deviously hilarious sense of humor. To capture this essence of the band, I decided to do what I would've done as a teenager growing up in the dual-cassette-deck era: Make a mix-tape! For those too young to experience it or those who may have forgotten, I'm hoping this

Fall Run Road
10/10/2013 Duración: 49minFall Run Road is the latest release in Milkit's Running Mix-Tape series. As the title suggests, it's custom made for a brisk autumn run.The playlist eases you into fall, transitioning from warmer sounding tunes to cooler. Beware, the tempo picks up two-thirds of the way through, however, if you keep pace, you'll be rewarded with a cool down at the end of the mix. Not every song is autumn-themed, but our team of athletes road tested the tunes and confirmed that the playlist is perfect for a nice fall run. (Just make sure your running shoes don't slip on any wet foliage.)

Run, Run (Running Mixtape)
01/05/2013 Duración: 49minWe here at Milkit Entertainment have been making running mix-tapes for years. We understand the rhythm and flow of a well-paced outdoors run, knowing that you simply can't craft a mix by cramming an hour's worth of balls-to-the-wall AC/DC singles back to back to back. This mix was especially made for a 6-7 mile run (for those able to run an impressive, but not Olympic worthy, 7-8 minute miles). Run, Run is intended for the open road only. Please do not listen to this mix indoors or in a car. If you haven't consulted your physician yet, what are you waiting for? Like the title suggests: run, run!

Free For All, Best of 2012 (Milkit Radio)
20/11/2012 Duración: 01h51minMaybe it's because of my day job, but I'm regularly asked what music I'm listening to. For some reason I have trouble answering that question, because I'm always listening to music, but I think people want a specific answer, as in what new music am I listening to. Whenever I'm asked this question, I should just tell the person to wait until the end of the year, when I've had time to compile my yearly best-of-playlist. Being birthed out of a college radio show, the Free For All has gone from tape to CD to podcast format. Looking back, it's funny to think how I used to bust my hump just to dub 30 copies and homemade liner notes for my friends, and how easy it is now to share music with an audience that's limitless. You may not like all of my song selections, but if you fall in love with at lease one, that's good enough for me. Enjoy!
