From the Sportstalkny Vault this comes from 2008, Gene Conley was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played 11 seasons from 1952 to 1963 for four teams. Conley also played forward in the 1952–53 season and from 1958 to 1964 for two teams in the National Basketball Association. He is best known for being one of only two people (the other being Otto Graham–1946 NBL and AAFC Championship, plus three more AAFC and three NFL championships) to win championships in two of the four major American sports, one with the Milwaukee Braves in the 1957 World Series and three Boston Celtics championships from 1959–61.

Joba Chamberlain played his college baseball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers where He helped the Cornhuskers reach the 2005 College World Series, and helped lead Nebraska to its first College World Series win. He had a 10–2 won/loss record with a 2.81 ERA for the year, and his 2005 stats included 5 double-digit strikeout games .The NY Yankees selected him in the first round of the 2006 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in 2007 as a relief pitcher during the Yankees' run to the postseason. Keith KInkaid graduated from Sachem High School East just down the road from the studio here in 2007.He played for the St. Louis Bandits of the North American Hockey League for the 2008–09 season. In February 2009, he committed to play NCAA Division I hockey for Union College. That April, he was named MVP and Goaltender of the Year after he led all NAHL goaltenders in wins, goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts. After an outstanding sophomore season in which He posted a 25-10-3 record and led the Dutchmen to their first NCAA tournament appearance, He was named an AHCA East First-Team All-American. He was also named to the All-ECAC Hockey First Team and awarded the Ken Dryden Award as the best goaltender in the ECAC. He signed an entry level contract with the Devils in April 2011 after his sophomore season with Union, he has appeared in 157 games in the NHL as well as 2 playoff games he holds a 65-56-20 with a sub 3 GA average. Callum Crawford was originally selected 18th overall in the 2005 NLL Entry Draft by Calgary.He is  A 15-year veteran, and has been the second and first leading scorer in the NLL over the past two seasons as a member of the New England Black Wolves. This past month he agreed to bring his offensive talents to Long Island as he has signed with the New York Riptide. He is a lacrosse legend as he is On the verge of being one of the top-10 players for career games played, goals scored, assists and total points of all time, and  his career total of 1,049 points makes him one of only 11 players in league history to be part of the 1K club. Jerry Hairston Jr. played sixteen seasons in Major League Baseball. He was a member of the Baltimore Orioles, Chicago Cubs, Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds, New York Yankees, San Diego Padres, Washington Nationals, Milwaukee Brewers, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He played every position except pitcher and catcher during his baseball career. He is the grandson of former major leaguer Sam Hairston, the son of former major leaguer Jerry Hairston Sr., and the brother of Scott Hairston. He helped the Yankees win the 2009 World Series, beating the Philadelphia Phillies, giving him his only World Series title. Larry Brooks Hockey hall of fame  plaque sits beside such literary legends as Red Fisher, Al Laney and Michael Farber, His passion for hockey began as a child growing up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, going on to Bronx High School of Science and then CCNY. He found his way to The Post in 1976, starting in rewrite and then getting the Islanders beat. He also covered baseball during that time, including the famous 1977 Yankees.In 1978, Brooks began covering the Rangers, and the next season, he segued into a role as a hockey columnist while still covering baseball. He left the paper in 1982 to become vice president of communications for the Devils, which included being the color commentator on radio.  By 1993, he returned to The Post and covered the Devils, adding the now-famous Sunday column known as Slap Shots in 1995. Billy Kilmer played Quarterback in the National Football League for the San Francisco 49ers, New Orleans Saints, and Washington Redskins.He led the NFL in touchdowns and passer rating in 1972. He is regarded as one of the greatest players in Washington Redskins history. He was a two-time All-Pro selection and is a member of the Washington Redskins Hall of Fame.He was also used as a running back and wide receiver. Don Cherry played one game with the Boston Bruins, and later coached the team for five seasons after concluding a successful playing career in the American Hockey League. From 1986 to 2019, he co-hosted Coach's Corner— during CBC's Saturday-night NHL broadcast Hockey Night in Canada, with Ron MacLean. Steve Garvey is one of the greatest players in Dodger history — he was part of the legendary Dodger infield, he was the 1974 All-Star Game and National League MVP, the 1978 All-Star Game and National League Championship Series MVP, a four-time Gold Glove Award winner and 1981 World Series champion. Over a 19-year career, he batted .294 h with 272 home runs and 1308 RBIs. He  holds the National League record for most consecutive games played at 1,207.He is a member of the Irish American Hall of Fam, the Michigan State University Athletics Hall of Fame. Bryan Trottier played 18 seasons in the National Hockey League  for the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins. He won four Stanley Cups with the Islanders, two with the Penguins and one as an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche. He holds the NHL record for points in a single period with six (four goals and two assists) in the second period against the Rangers on December 23, 1978. He is also one of only eight NHL players with multiple five-goal games.He was named one of the '100 Greatest NHL Players' in history. Doug Gilmour played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the St. Louis Blues, Calgary Flames, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens. He was a seventh round selection, 134th overall, of the Blues at the 1982 NHL Entry Draft and recorded 1,414 points in 1,474 games in the NHL between 1983 and 2003. A two-time All-Star, he was a member of Calgary’s 1989 Stanley Cup championship team and won the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the NHL’s best defensive forward in 1992–93. Internationally, he represented Canada three times during his career and was a member of the nation’s 1987 Canada Cup championship team.He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and his uniform number 93 is retired by the Toronto Maple Leafs.
