Meet Heath Thompson who is on to motivate and inspire us with the story of his ongoing weight loss journey that started a few years back when he made a New Year’s resolution. Fast forward to 2023, he has lost over 250 pounds and continues a healthy relationship with both exercise and food. Earlier this year he added bicycling to his exercise routine, and enjoyed it so much he decided to register for his very first RAGBRAI!! He already has over 1,000 training miles on his new bike and is looking forward to pedaling across the state in July with thousands of others. RAGBRAI is going all out when it comes to celebrating 50 years of biking across Iowa! Ride the Rockies is a weeklong bicycle tour in Colorado that takes place each June. On this episode the ride director, Sabra Nagel, is on to give us an update on what riders can expect as they bicycle through epic places like Berthoud Pass, Rocky Mountain National Park, and Estes Park to name a few. There will also be some VIP’s on route this year including Denise Mueller who is currently considered the fastest cyclist on earth! (see link to her Just Go Bike episode below). Also on route this year is Todd Gogulski, a retired pro racer who raced for several teams including the U.S. Postal Team. BRAG is Georgia’s version of RAGBRAI and it has been around since 1980 after Dot Moss went to Iowa to ride RAGBRAI and thought…we should do this in Georgia!! And the Bike Ride Across Georgia, also known as BRAG was born. Have you ever wondered if you could take the energy you use while pedaling and turn it into electricity? Jim Gregory did and he is on to tell us how he keeps his home office running via pedal power! Back in the 90’s Jim used his bicycle as a delivery service, delivering groceries, pizza, you name it. From there he expanded to picking up curbside recycling by bike back before curbside recycling existed.
