Interview With "The Tender Bar" Production Designer, Kalina Ivanov
24/12/2021 Duración: 23min"The Tender Bar" is the latest film by George Clooney, which tells the simple but inspiring story of J.R. Moehringer (whose memoir the film is based on), who dealt with struggles related to his absent father and class. Production Designer Kalina Ivanov was responsible for not only crafting period sets during the pandemic but environments that would subliminally inform the audience about the characters, the journey J.R. was going on, and take us through multiple decades. She was kind enough to speak with me about her work on the film, which you can listen to down below. Be sure to check out the film, now playing in theaters and arriving on Prime Video on January 7th, 2022. Enjoy! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on... Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture This is a big one for me..."The Lord Of The Rings" trilogy from Academy Award-winner Peter Jackson had a massive influence on me and is the main reason why I fell in love with movies. Now, for its 20th anniversary, I was fortunate to discuss the first installment in the trilogy, "The Fellowship Of The Ring," with Nicole Ackman and guest Brendan Cassidy from InSession Film. There's so much to touch on, including but not limited to the film's famous production, the cultural impact they had, the design and craft which went into them, the writing and performances from the cast. We do our best to go over all of these topics, plus the film's awards run in 2001. We hope to be back next year and the year after that to review and reflect on the 20th anniversaries of "The Two Towers" and "The Return of The King," respectively, but for now, we hope

Adapted from the 1946 novel of the same name, the film is a dark modern-day noir with incredible craftsmanship and much to explore in the way of characters and themes. 18/12/2021 Duración: 01h25minThis week, Cody Dericks & Danilo Castro joined our main podcast review to discuss the third installment in Jon Watts' stand-alone Spider-Man trilogy between Sony and Marvel with "Spider-Man: No Way Home" starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Benedict Cumberbatch, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina & Jamie Foxx. It's an ambitious film, even for Marvel, as it attempts to wrap up several storylines, introduce a few surprises and provide emotional closure for the character of Peter Parker. What did we think of the storyline, the multiple villains, the visual effects, performances, and more? Interview With "Swan Song" Director/Writer, Benjamin Cleary
17/12/2021 Duración: 19min"Swan Song" (not to be confused with the indie film starring Udo Kier released earlier this year) is the first narrative feature from Oscar-winning director Benjamin Cleary (Best Live Action Short for "Stutterer") and also the first leading role for the film's star, 2-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali. The film is a thinking person's sci-fi with an emotional core allowing for some deep questions on mortality. Benjamin was kind enough to sit with me after the film's world premiere at the AFI Film Festival and discuss his ideas behind the film, the collaborations with the actors and craft departments, what he has coming up next, and more! "The Matrix"
16/12/2021 Duración: 21minTHIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture It cannot be overstated just how groundbreaking Lana and Lilly Wachowski's 1999 sci-fi action masterpiece "The Matrix" was at the time of its release and how influential it has been in the years since. Its popularity has spurred multiple sequels (including a new one next week), spin-offs, and imitators across the film industry who tried to replicate the lightning in a bottle the sisters caught. Starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss, Hugo Weaving, and Joe Pantoliano in iconic roles, the film either turned them into household names or cemented their reputations. Twenty-two years later, we decided to go back to the Matrix and discuss the first film's themes, action scenes, characters, visual effects (including the legendary use of "bullet-time"), its awards run, and more! Interview With "Being The Ricardos" Director/Writer, Aaron Sorkin
15/12/2021 Duración: 19min"Being The Ricardos" is the third feature film directed by Academy Award-winning writer Aaron Sorkin after "Molly's Game" and "The Trial Of The Chicago 7." The film has garnered praise for its performances from Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem, who both received Golden Globe nominations for their work recently, while Sorkin received Critics Choice and Golden Globe nominations for his screenplay. Despite this, the film and Sorkin have faced scrutiny over the casting of Kidman and particularly Bardem as the iconic duo of Lucile Ball and Desi Arnaz. Making his second appearance on the show two years in a row, Sorkin addressed this criticism again, spoke about his initial ideas behind the project, what he's learned as a director, working with the actors, and more. The two actors are playing Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz behind the camera and Lucy and Ricky Ricardo in front of the camera from the famous television show "I Love Lucy." There has been some controversy surrounding their casting, and the movie has received mixed reviews from critics. What did we think of it, though? Based on the early life of its writer and director, Paolo Sorrentino, the film is a personal re-telling of growing up in Italy, with beautiful cinematography and naturalistic performances, especially from Scotti in his on-screen debut. The film has been chosen as the Italian submission for Best International Feature at this year's Academy Awards and has received Golden Globe and Critics Choice nominations for Best Foreign Language Film. "West Side Story"
11/12/2021 Duración: 02h24minThis week, Josh Parham, Dan Bayer, Eve O'Dea, Cody Dericks & Daniel Howat joined our main podcast review to discuss Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story," starring Rachel Zegler, Ansel Elgort, Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist & Rita Moreno. Based on the 1957 stage musical of the same name, which was later made into a Best Picture Oscar-winning film, the film has been adapted by Tony Kushner and injected with a 2021 sensibility for its storytelling and marking the first time Steven Spielberg has ever directed a movie musical. 10/12/2021 Duración: 42min"Red Rocket" premiered at this year's Cannes Film Festival and went on to screen at the Telluride and New York Film Festivals before opening in limited release this weekend. Writer/Director Sean Baker is following up his previous film, the acclaimed "The Florida Project," with an outrageous, vivid, and particular character study. With a career-best performance from Simon Rex, a powerhouse turn from Bree Elrod, and a star-making debut from Suzanna Son, the film has garnered similar acclaim from critics but has also drawn some controversy due to its lead character's perverted and warped mindset, the relationship he starts with an underage teenager and the film's sexual content. "Twilight: Breaking Dawn - Part 2" Audio Commentary Track
09/12/2021 Duración: 15minTHIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL TRACK. Please check out the full commentary track on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture Our "Twilight" marathon (finally) ends with the fifth installment in the franchise, "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2," once again, directed by Bill Condon. With the release of "Spencer," we went back to visit the film franchise that made Kristen Stewart a star along with her co-star Robert Pattinson. This was our fifth and final film in our marathon viewing from a few days ago, and you can tell we were drained and absolutely done with this franchise. A surprising third act brought us back to life, but not in the way we expected this mega-franchise would conclude. Take a listen one last time to hear our thoughts as we watch it for the first time, not knowing where any of it is going! We've already posted our commentary tracks for the first, second, third, and fourth films, which you can listen to as a preview on the site or ent
