The 1865 Forest Ramble meets: NFFC Supporters' Trust
22/12/2020 Duración: 49minIn the second of our long-form podcasts this week, we meet the Chair of the Nottingham Forest Supporters' Trust, Elliott Stanley, to discuss what the Trust are for, what they do, and how they interact with the club. We also speak to founder member Tom Newton, to hear how the whole thing started, at a time when fans felt alienated during the Fawaz regime. Elliott and Tom tell us about what the Trust can and cannot do, and respond to accusations from some fans that the Trust is simply a mouthpiece for the club. Like what you hear? It's Tricky To Talk: The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
21/12/2020 Duración: 39minIn this special podcast, we speak to Bethany Didsbury who received a shirt from Nottingham Forest in recognition of her contribution to the NFFC Tricky Hub. Beth candidly discusses her story, from spotting the club's "It's Tricky To Talk" campaign, and plucking up the courage to visit the Tricky Hub. You can read Beth's story on her blog. We hear from Beth about the work of the NFFC Community Trust in supporting fans with mental health disorders and illnesses; although the campaign was targeted towards men (who may otherwise suffer in silence), they welcome everyone. We also hear how the work of the Community Trust has adapted to Covid restrictions. Like what you hear? Millwall 1-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
20/12/2020 Duración: 08minAfter both sides got their first victory in ages in midweek, it was important to pick up another result straightaway; while the Reds might not have got three points, they showed some of the fight and desire that was missing earlier in the season. Alex Mighten's first senior goal was a good reward, despite the concession of another soft goal. We are joined by Henry Morgan from Millwall fan podcast No-One Likes Us Talkin', to discuss the result, the performances, and to continue the ongoing debate about how much the players miss the fans. Nottingham Forest 2-0 Sheffield Wednesday: The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
16/12/2020 Duración: 06minThree points? Remember them? A good night for Forest, albeit against the worst team in the division. An early goal from Yuri Ribeiro and a (controversial) late one from the returning Lewis Grabban secured a much-needed victory for the Reds after an awful run of defeats. Baz reports on a night where Alex Mighten and Loic Mbe Soh finally started, and Cafu exerted some forward-facing impetus. Let's not get carried away, but we hope that the team, the manager and the fans can feel a little more positive before visiting an empty Den on Saturday. Like what you hear? Nottingham Forest 1-3 Brentford: The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
13/12/2020 Duración: 14minAnother match, another defeat. The results are awful, and some fans are laying the blame at whoever they can - players, managers, CEO/owner, each other. However, after an awful first half (and another cheap goal conceded), Forest actually gave Brentford something to think about, just as they did against Norwich and Watford. You might not believe it, but there are signs of life. We were once again asked to appear on Talksport2 to share our thoughts about the situation at the City Ground, and we are also joined by Billy Grant from Brentford podcast Beesotted, for a review of the match and a summary of Forest's hopes for the rest of the season. The 1865 Forest Ramble: what is wrong at the City Ground?
11/12/2020 Duración: 11minEarlier in the week, we were asked to contribute to a couple of shows to talk about Forest's awful season (and year) so far. Firstly, hear Rich Ferraro in conversation with Ryan Dilks and Justin Peach from the Second Tier Podcast, discussing the Reading game, but more importantly, the bigger picture as to why Forest are doing so badly. Then we cut to Monday's discussion with Talksport2, discussing the form and confidence of the players, whether Chris Hughton is a good appointment as manager, and whether there are potentially wider issues affecting the club. Norwich 2-1 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
11/12/2020 Duración: 08minYet another defeat for Forest as this awful run of hard games continues. However, the Reds at least looked a bit more competitive, and they managed to score for the first time in ages, albeit via a fortuitous cross from Antony Knockaert that went straight in (right now, we'll take what we can get). We are joined by our very own Baz, with a Forest fan's perspective, and by Norwich City supporter Tyrone Bradford, who shares his thoughts on the match, on Chris Hughton, and Forest's prospects for the season. The 1865 Forest Ramble meets: David Phillips!
07/12/2020 Duración: 01h02sYes, THAT David Phillips! Steven Toplis and the Maradona of the Midlands have an illuminating chat with the ex-Forest midfielder, who tells us about Frank Clark, winning Player of the Year as we got promotion, the Premier League and playing in Europe. David also tells us about his upbringing, playing in the 1987 FA Cup Final, and his experiences as an international right back despite playing left wing for Norwich. We also uncover exactly why a player we signed as a winger ended up playing as a defensive midfielder under Frank Clark, and freezing his bits off whilst wearing a dress. Like what you hear? Reading 2-0 Nottingham Forest: The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
05/12/2020 Duración: 07minAnother blank for Forest, and another game in which they gave the opponents a head start. Reading had a great start to the season and are still ruthless in front of goal, so it wasn't a great idea to give Lucas Joao a free shot from 12 yards, and playing three-quarters of the match with ten men. We are joined by Alex from the Elm Park Royals podcast, who shares his opinions on Reading's firepower, Forest's lack of creativity, and the importance of fans returning to matches. No chance! Nottingham Forest 0-0 Watford - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
03/12/2020 Duración: 07minA match of few chances, but a more solid performance meant that Reds fans could focus on some positives, such as the return of Joe Worrall, a better performance from Toby Figueiredo, and also the full debut of Cafu (not that one). We are joined by Mike from the Voices Of The Vic podcast to discuss the match and whether it would have made any difference if fans had been in the ground - especially with regard to the referee's decision to spare Nathaniel Chalobah from an early bath. Confidence and composure: Nottingham Forest 0-1 Swansea City - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
29/11/2020 Duración: 05minDespite a decent showing in the first half, Freddie Woodman's save from Antony Knockaert meant that Forest once again failed to score; then when Connor Roberts inexplicably out-jumped Sammy Ameobi, we just knew that we were up against it. The second half saw Swansea's back three hold firm, preventing Forest from having any meaningful efforts. It all boils down to composure; Knockaert could have done better with his first half effort, and all over the pitch, the Forest players seemed to want an extra half-second or another touch. After a reasonable first month at the helm, Chris Hughton must be wondering how to get the players feeling confident again, with a tough run of games coming up. Like what you hear? The 1865 Forest Ramble meets: Talking Reds!
28/11/2020 Duración: 37minWhat with one thing and another, it's been one heck of a year. With Christmas looming, we wanted to give you something to warm your cockles, and so we welcome Keith Harrison to the 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast. If you don't know Keith's name, you definitely need to know about his new book, Talking Reds. This is a real treasure trove, interviewing players from Forest's last great era in the 1990s, spanning the late Clough era all the way through Frank Clark and Dave Harry Bassett, through to David Platt. Ex-Reds from Ian Woan and Steve Chettle, through to Chris Bart-Williams and Bryan Roy, share their experiences and their warmth and love for Nottingham Forest FC. Yes, really - don't believe everything you have heard! The book supports the Nottingham Forest Powerchair Team, so get your orders in for the Reds fan in your life. Like what you hear? Forest fruitless against the Cherries: AFC Bournemouth 2-0 Nottingham Forest - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
25/11/2020 Duración: 06minWe all knew this would be a tough night for the Reds, and so it proved, with Bournemouth proving to be slick, composed and superior in many departments. Forest weren't entirely hopeless, but the concession of soft goals at the start of each half gave them too much to do, and even when Bournemouth took their foot off the gas, the Reds struggled to test Asmir Begovic in the Cherries' goal. The Maradona Of The Midlands reports on a harsh lesson for Chris Hughton's men, which only proved to demonstrate that there is a lot of work for the Reds' players and manager to do to make Forest a competitive force this season. Missed chances: Barnsley 2-0 Nottingham Forest - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
22/11/2020 Duración: 07minA decent away performance from Forest, but they left with nothing after two late goals gave Barnsley the points. Both teams had plenty of opportunities to wrap up the game, with Barnsley hitting the woodwork three times and Jak Walton earning his money to outfox Miguel Guerrero and deny Lyle Taylor. We are joined by Carlo from the Barnsley podcast The Reds Report (@RedsReport_), to look back over the key moments in the game, including missed chances, substitutions and teamwork. We also discuss both teams' prospects for the rest of the season, including Carlo's thoughts about Chris Hughton's Forest. Like what you hear? The 1865 Forest Ramble meets: George Harbey! Part 2
16/11/2020 Duración: 32minOnce again, we welcome football journalist, Forest correspondent and local boy George Harbey to the podcast. In part 2 of our conversation, George tells us more about the ups and downs of football journalism, and being embedded at Forest. What was it like reporting on the demise and departure of Sabri Lamouchi, and what it's like being at the City Ground without fans - is the job made even harder when no-one can see the game in person? Also, what difference does social media and 24/7 reporting make to the life of a football journalist? Like what you hear? 14/11/2020 Duración: 30minAs it is an international break, we wanted to bring you something extra to keep you warm on those cold, dark nights. We welcome football journalist, Forest correspondent and local boy George Harbey to the podcast. In part 1 of our conversation, we discuss how George got started as a football writer, and how this led to him reporting on his local team. "Lyle Taylor: what a guy!" The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast, November 2020
08/11/2020 Duración: 01h02minA tough first month for Chris Hughton, with no fewer than seven games; but the Reds' record has improved from P4 L4, with the new gaffer overseeing three wins, three draws and a solitary defeat at miserly Middlesbrough. Rich Ferraro is joined by Steven Toplis, Baz, the Maradona of the Midlands and new contributor Tom Newton; your intrepid podcast team discuss Hughton's impact, improvements at both ends of the pitch, and whether the Reds have missed having fans in the stadium. Wait, there's more - there is still time to cram in the unsuccessful pursuit of Kamil Grosicky (and whether So Solid Crew would have had something to say about it), the governance of Forest by the Greek ownership, and a special mention for new striker Lyle Taylor - what a guy! Out of jail: Nottingham Forest 2-1 Coventry City - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
05/11/2020 Duración: 05minPhew. Bloody hell. We didn't deserve that did we? Obviously Forest fans were concentrating more on the Reds' fortune than the Sky Blues' pain, but having taken a deserved first-half lead, Forest really played poorly in the second period, allowing Coventry to take control and almost take the points. A draw would have been more than we deserved, but luckily Forest had two players who kept playing until the very end - Joe Lolley's throughball set Lyle Taylor away, and he drew the foul. Of course, there are few cooler customers than Taylor when it comes to spot-kicks, and he duly ambled up to stroke the ball home from twelve yards with the very last kick of the match. Lucky lucky Forest, but now comes the hard part - building on the result and restoring fragile confidence. Like what you hear? Playing catch-up: Middlesbrough 1-0 Nottingham Forest - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
01/11/2020 Duración: 05minIf Chris Hughton’s first job was to steady the ship, this match shows that there has been some progress but there is still a lot of work to do, especially in the opposition half. There were never going to be too many chances in this match, but Forest really struggled in the second half against a Boro side with a four-month head start on them, in terms of organisation, playing culture and style. Hughton is obviously working on Forest’s soft centre, but there is still more to be done, and the next problem is to get the team to create chances. Like what you hear? Reds' endeavour: Luton Town 1-1 Nottingham Forest - The 1865 Forest Ramble Podcast
29/10/2020 Duración: 05minAt half-time it looked a bit bleak, and a few Forest fans were rather despondent as the Reds were a goal down and a man down. Whatever the arguments about Nicolas Ioannou's red card, the inescapable fact was that Forest were down to ten men and would need to find a way to get a result. There were also a few wags commenting that Forest players couldn't see each other in the grey camo kit... It was rather pleasing to know that Forest could find a level of performance and resilience that was lacking over the last few months, and although it took an own goal from Glenn Rea, it was just reward for Forest knocking on the door. Nathan Jones bemoaned that his team failed to finish the game off, but Chris Hughton was happy with the Reds' endeavour. Like what you hear?
