This week Radio COTA is celebrating diversity with Queensland Multicultural Awareness Month. Join us for conversations with organisations supporting folk from culturally diverse backgrounds.

With the number of Queensland Seniors expected to increase substantially over the next decade, developing a clear Disaster Management strategy has been paramount in ensuring vulnerable Seniors, people with disability, non-English speaking residents, as well as people who are geographically or culturally isolated, medically or chemically dependent, or homeless have access to resources to assist with preparedness, relief and recovery. Join us this week as we explore this topic in more depth with interviews with Iain MacKenzie, Inspector-General Emergency Management and Redland City Council Deputy Mayor Wendy Boglary.

COTA Queensland hosted IFA’s 13th Global Conference on Ageing in Brisbane 21-23 June 2016. The conference was co-sponsored by the World Health Organisation and brought together leaders from 32 countries to share knowledge and develop the discourse on ageing issues. This week Andy Neil recaps on some of the sessions and the importance of these conversations and global information sharing.

June 15 is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. Elder abuse is a global human right issue that is continuing to grow. The Office of the Public Guardian is an independent statutory body that protects the rights and interests of vulnerable Queenslanders, including adults with impaired capacity to make their own decisions.
