On the 21st anniversary of 911 and the attack on the World Trade Center, we come together in the name of peace on Earth to explore and embody how the principles of our teachings can help us contribute to greater peace that can be a healing balm for humanity.

There is great courage in moving from chaos, anger, disappointment, pain, and violence to peace; it is not a passive effort. As each one of us embodies courage and attains greater inner peace, we benefit our own living and the living of others in our personal circle and everywhere.

We can have some misconceptions about what it means to struggle especially the idea when one struggles, it means there is something wrong. Could struggle also mean there is something good taking place? Could it be a sign of growth, a symbol of commitment, or an alarm reminding you that you are right where you should be? If we can stop struggling down and learn to struggle up, we can rise to new levels of richer living and contentment.

Real health and authentic well-being begin with self-acceptance and they grow with self-understanding, reachable goals, and a commitment to doing and being the best we can be. Real health and authentic well-being are knowing that doing our best is more than enough.

What Jesus taught was the way of the Spirit. There is wisdom when we step back from the great stories about Jesus and move into the heart of what he taught. To practice the way of the Spirit is to have the secret to true life.

History is not only a likely story about the past. It is the method by which we continue to learn and reveal how we got to where we are and when properly understood, gives us wisdom for where we are going. From our founding fathers to working mothers, civil servants to civil rights activists, natives whose ancestors lived on this land for generations to newly arriving immigrants—how we view our country may be very different based on our own points of view. But there is also a story of our wholeness, born in our inception, strained through racism and injustice, strengthened through sacrifice and bravery, and practiced in the daily lives of so many everyday Americans. America needs constant scrutiny but it also requires a “whole story” to realize the prayer at the heart of our union for liberty, peace, and justice for all.

As we find ourselves between the national holidays of Juneteenth and Independence Day, it is wise for us to consider not only our shared history as Americans but our shared responsibility to preserve and protect our precious freedom.

Freedom is the promise of the Divine embedded in the heart of everyone. To listen to this promise and follow it is to seek to bring freedom for your mind, for your choices, for people around you, and ultimately for the generations that follow you.
