We are continuing our sermon series through 1 & 2 Samuel, which tell the story of the rise and reign of King David. However, we’re reading this through the lens of the life and ministry of Jesus. We’re exploring how the Bible invites us to see Jesus Christ as the subject of ancient prophecy and the fulfillment of God’s promises to His people. We’ve titled our series “This is He,” which is a quote from 1 Samuel 16. Samuel is searching for a new King to anoint, and when he finds David, God says, “This is he.” Then, hundreds of years later, John the Baptist is searching for a new King to anoint, and Jesus comes to him to be baptized. And what does God say? “This is He.” “This is my beloved Son.”

This season commemorates the appearance of Jesus to the magi, who were the first Gentiles to acknowledge the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
