It's July, the Summer heat is here to stay and there's no better time to be on the road. In this episode, we head out on the road to check in with Dead & Company and Phil Lesh. Both bands are doing some great things on stages all over the place so I've pulled a couple great jams to either cool down or heat up your listening space. These jams can do both. After that, we reach into the vault for some good old Grateful Dead. We even take a request! As mentioned in the episode intro, we still have shirts that are on our redbubble page. Please consider heading over there to cop a little something with our sweet new logo. In addition to ladies and men’s shirts, we've got stickers, and things that hold coffee (or tea!) • 018 - 50, 40, & 30 Years Ago

    17/04/2018 Duración: 01h09min

Coast, at least) the trees are blooming and the coldest days seem like they might be behind us. As such, I thought I might put together something to accompany the gradual warming, a little mix to go along with the first open-window days of the season. Plus, I did promise you kind and patient listeners a shot of good old Grateful Dead. Wait no more. This mix reaches back 50, 40, and 30 years to 1968, '78, and '88 for material. The tracks range from jams to cowboy songs and it hangs together despite the disparate eras represented. After the music, I do spend a few minutes detailing where the cuts come from so as to provide a little bit of context. So pull back the curtains, throw up the sash, crank the stereo and get on down. We'll be back in May with a guest some more Grateful Dead. In the meantime, please, don't forget to follow the @BrokedownPod twitter account for regular news, live tweetstorms of shows as I listen, and other minutiae. We also now have an Instagram account. • 017 - Golden Gate Wingmen

    03/04/2018 Duración: 01h35min

We've got a special and unusual episode for you this time around. I had the great fortune to join my good friend and head of Osiris, RJ Bee, at a Golden Gate Wingmen show late last month. The show, at The Hamilton Live, was the kick-off for a short tour and it was a blast. To make things even more exciting, we got to meet and interview the band. Jeff Chimenti (keys, vocals), John Kadlecik (guitar, vocals), Jay Lane (drums, vocals), and Reed Mathis (bass, vocals) were friendly, forthcoming, and entertaining. You'll hear our interview with the band and about an hour's worth of tunes from the show in this episode. Thanks to RJ Bee for making the interview happen. Thanks also to DC Music Review for allowing me to share a couple of Jason Herman's beautifulphotos from the night. Thanks as well to taper Alex Leary for making and sharing his excellent recording with us.

    06/03/2018 Duración: 01h52min

We begin the Spring thaw with a visit from my good friend and the founder of both the Helping Friendly Podcast and the Osiris Podcast Network, RJ Bee. RJ wanted to talk about Bobby songs so that's just what we'll do. We also, spend a fair amount of time discussing the work of the late John Perry Barlow. Barlow's writing for the Grateful Dead along with his advocacy for an open internet via the Electronic Frontier Foundation are both keys to the very existence of this podcast. He will be missed and forever held in the utmost esteem. In addition to chatting about Weir, Barlow, and being a Grateful Dead fan, RJ and I assembled a set of tunes for you to enjoy. Check us out in two weeks for the second set.

  • 014 - Playing In The Band

    06/02/2018 Duración: 01h22min

We've made it through January and the days are getting longer. Although the men in the top hats have disturbed the groundhogs, hibernation isn't quite over so we have a one-part episode this month. Here's hoping the hot jams warm your home. This go round, I'm dusting off a mix that I assembled several years back that amounts to a fairly epic survey of the song Playing In The Band. In true Grateful Dead fashion, this jam covers a lot of ground and should not disappoint. The full breakdown of included clips is listed below. We'll be back next month with a guest and a ton of music for you to dig upon. In the meantime, thanks for tuning in, please share this with your friends, and consider posting a review on the iTunes or wherever you get your podcasts.
