The team decided to take a break from film this week, which of course means that Fiona went right to the cinema and saw Julia's Eyes. Elroy and Matt however followed the rules and focused on television shows that they wanted to catch up on, which was the topic for this week: What we're watching on TV. The crew talked about the TV shows that have been renewed for another season, and a few that haven't been. This topic ran horrendously long though, so this episode strays from the usual format, in that the last half of the show is a single block which consists of mostly TV talk, and some release dates and feedback crammed awkwardly into the last few minutes of the show. Matthew was unable to make the recording this week, so we sent out a distress flare to Zak Hepburn, who you may remember as being our guest on episode #11. Zak, Fiona and Elroy had all been to the cinema to see the new JJ Abrams / Steven Spielberg sci-fi/action/adventure flick Super 8. Elroy also watched a new Green Lantern DVD release, and Fiona and Zak compared their notes on the film Bridesmaids. This week Matt burnt some work bandwidth downloading the public domain film Last Man on Earth, in preparation for the Zombie discussion topic that Elroy put forward last week. Fiona also did some research and watched the recent remake of The Crazies. But going right to the head of the class was Elroy, who went beyond the call and watched Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Diary of the Dead, Survival of the Dead, Re-Animator, La Horde, Dellamorte Dellamore and Resident Evil. The sad part was that he'd totally forgotten about the discussion topic, that's just a normal weeks viewing for him... weirdo! Calling for user input on discussion topics has given a wealth of topics for future episodes, but we grabbed the meta topic of 'Reviewers' off the top of the pile and talked about a couple of our favourite movie reviewers and how to get the best our of a reviewer (even if you don't agree with them). Matt took in a couple TV shows this week one he loved, one... not so much. Elroy defied Fiona's take on Pirates 4 from the last episode and ventured to the cinema... he'll probably listen to Fiona in the future. While Fiona ventured out to the cinema to see Hangover 2 and then dropped by her favourite blockbuster, dove into the bargain box, and came out with a copy of Pulse. The experiment of surprising each other with discussion topics took a horrible turn this week, when Matt sprung a Director feature on Fiona and Elroy. Much like the man's movies, the team's attempt to discuss the work of Michael Bay ended up being something of a train wreak. While convalescence on the couch this week, Elroy watched the hotly anticipated DVD release of RUBBER... Yeah, that movie about the tyre that goes around killing people. Elroy also managed to download the new release film The Tunnel without running foul of any copyright laws. Fiona made her way to our nation's capitol, she says it was for a friend's engagement, but we all know it was to buy fire crackers and porn... she also managed to find time to see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. This week's discussion topic, Adapting video games to movies, takes a rather chatty turn and ends up spanning the majority of the second half of the episode. Although, luckily they're related, we still managed to get a couple of feedback emails in. Fiona and Elroy both hit the cinema, between them seeing Burke and Hare, Insidious, and Your Highness, while Matt continued his digital distribution challenge and discovered a remastered James Bond classic. With this being a pretty quiet release week at the cinema everyone played catch-up, by visiting (or revisiting) some movies from the last month or so that they may have missed on their initial release. Elroy checked out Source Code and caught The Adjustment Bureau before it finishes it's run at cinemas. This was a special episode for the Remote Viewing team for a couple of reasons. 1/ we were lucky enough to record the episode from within one of our favourite cinemas here in Melbourne: The Palace Westgarth - home of the Friday night cult cinema sessions known as Cult Vault. We were also joined by the Curator of the Cult Vault, Zak Hepburn, for a discussion about classic cinema. 2/ Fiona returns from her three week absence, and fills us in on what she’s been up to during her sabbatical. Not the least of which was seeing the new Jake Gyllenhaal action flick, Source Code. Matt continues to his efforts to catch up on some recent films that he missed at the box-office by watching The Town. Irregular Fiona returns this week, as hopes for the return of regular Fiona continue to fade. Matt's spent the week watching a couple of big name movies that he missed last year, thanks to his purchase of an AppleTV, he talks about The Social Network, Kickass and how his iDevice compares with his Playstation when it comes to hiring movies digitally. It was a horror week for Australian cinema, Fiona hired a couple of horror dvds, Elroy was horrified by Red Riding Hood, and Matt let the side down by watching nothing but cooking shows. This week Remote Viewing achieves the huge milestone that is the fifth episode. Yup, that’s half way to making it to double figures!
