I may explain the O.T.misunderstanding of “health and wealth” gospel, but it will be secondary to the main message of Our protection is in our position in Christ. There are voices that whisper to our hearts about our failings. Your looks are ugly, you’re worthless and won’t amount to anything, Etc. God’s protection is in what God says about you…not other people! Joy can flow out of that.

Sermon on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2013 Matthew 21:10

While this sermon will concentrate on “seek ye first the kingdom of heaven”, it is really a sermon on faith. Worry is something that robs/detracts/affects the faith that we should have in our lives. Worry is really relying on ourselves more than God and we will explore ways to keep us from doing that.

We tend to talk about the bottom line being the profit margin in our society. Jesus wants us to think spiritually in terms of where we spend our time, our talent, our money, our energy and all those things add up to our “treasure”. Where is it? We need to periodically take inventory of those things and make sure we are in line with God’s Word and God’s Will.

The whole tenor of the sermon series (being “poured out”) is exemplified in these commands of Jesus. Forgiveness, or the lack of forgiveness, is an issue that really keeps out the grace of God in our lives. This is what Jesus is talking about when He says “if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins”. It is not an eye for an eye mentality, rather, because we have been forgiven so much (our own sins), we should be ready to forgive others with the same compassion. If we don’t, the grace of God is more difficult to be seen in our lives.

We will deal with Jesus’ command to love our enemies in this sermon. We must reflect the kind of love for each other in this world that God the Father has for the world. That love sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross and rise again…for His enemies (Romans 5:8). Verse 48 talks about being perfect like our heavenly Father is perfect. We will dissect that a little bit in this sermon.

This sermon will explore the difference that Jesus was talking about in the Sermon. The difference is not between the law given to Moses and Jesus’ teaching…the difference is between the law given to Moses and the Pharisees’ interpretation of it. Following the law goes much deeper in our hearts than just “legalism”…it goes deep into our hearts all the way to our motivations and attitudes that we hold there even though no one may be able to see them. God does.
