Here is a recap of Day 3 on the 2022 RAGBRAI Route Inspection Ride. We rode our bikes from Pocahontas through Havelock, Rolfe, West Bend, Rodman and finally to Emmetsburg. Today was also the Gravel Day so we have a report to share on both routes. About 58 miles on the bike with only 756 feet of climb. The gravel route was a few miles shorter. Did you know a Facebook group exists just for people doing RAGBRAI for the first time? It’s called RAGBRAI Newbies and on the show today we re-broadcast our favorite interview with Anna Abrams, the founder of the group, to talk about riding across Iowa for the first time. She wanted to feel more connected with other new riders and decided a Facebook group could provide a place for newbies to voice concerns, worries and questions, knowing other newbies will be facing the same thoughts. This private group, which is not directly associated with RAGBRAI, is a place where riders can ask about any question they may have about the ride, or preparing for the ride. These questions become great subjects of conversation and support that help the entire group. Group members are friendly and helpful and the community helps newbies feel connected. Anna even hosted a Newbies meet-up last year on the first day of RAGBRAI that was well attended. Anna will be coming back for her second RAGBRAI in 2022 and she is so excited to

On this episode AP and Murph caught up with Jason Sumner from the Ride the Rockies team who is a long time cyclist and a Colorado Native living in Crested Butte. He is a journalist and has authored the book: 75 Classic Rides Colorado. Ride the Rockies, a multi day bicycle tour that explores communities in Colorado, has many similarities to RAGBRAI and has the history to prove it. Back in 1985, Claire Martin, a Denver Post reporter, came to Iowa to ride RAGBRAI and was hooked. She went back to Colorado and pitched the idea to the Denver Post.
