Episode 191: Pedaling a Century in a Day for Karras
03/02/2022 Duración: 24minDid you know back in the early years of RAGBRAI, riding a 100 mile day was part of the planned route each year? This year to honor our founding fathers, John Karras and Donald Kaul, we are going back to the roots they created almost 50 years ago. So if you are riding RAGBRAI in 2022, you will get to do a century ride! Sound impossible? It is not! On today’s episode, enjoy a Parrott Talk where AP will provide you with some facts and some inspiration to help you get ready to tackle a RAGBRAI century day. A century for Karras!! Andrea also dug deep into the newspaper archives and found an article John Karras wrote back in 1974. He answers questions from riders who were getting ready to do their second RAGBRAI, which was called SAGBRAI that year. Have a topic for a future episode? Episode 187: Anna's Perspective on Being a First Time RAGBRAI Rider
14/01/2022 Duración: 45minDid you know a Facebook group exists just for people doing RAGBRAI for the first time? It’s called RAGBRAI Newbies and on the show today is Anna Abrams, the founder of the group, to talk about riding across Iowa for the first time. She wanted to feel more connected with other new riders and decided a Facebook group could provide a place for newbies to voice concerns, worries and questions, knowing other newbies will be facing the same thoughts. This private group, which is not directly associated with RAGBRAI, is a place where riders can ask about any question they may have about the ride, or preparing for the ride. These questions become great subjects of conversation and support that help the entire group. Group members are friendly and helpful and the community helps newbies feel connected. Anna even hosted a Newbies meet-up last year on the first day of RAGBRAI that was well attended. Anna will be coming back for her second RAGBRAI in 2022 and she is so excited to continue to share what she learned last

Episode 181: Denise Mueller: The Fastest Cyclist on Earth
24/11/2021 Duración: 01h01minHappy Thanksgiving from the gang at Just Go Bike! Today meet Denise Mueller, who experienced her first RAGBRAI in 2021 and had a blast. She rode RAGBRAI just like the rest of us, stopping along the way to enjoy all that Iowa has to offer. But what is really amazing about Denise is that she is the fastest cyclist on earth! Denise holds the world record for paced bicycle land speed, pedaling her bicycle at an unbelievable speed of 183.9 mph. Back in 2016 Denise was successful at setting the first ever Women’s paced bicycle land speed record of 147.7 mph. But she didn’t stop there. On September 16, 2018 Denise shattered the overall record of 167 mph with a speed of 183.9 mph. This type of record was invented by Charles “Mile-a-Minute Murphy” who drafted a train to set a 60 mph record at the end of the 19th century. In order to accomplish this feat, a mile of plywood sheets were attached to the railroad ties ensuring that Charles would have a smooth surface riding behind the train.
