Sinopsis

Simon and Mat are good friends who share a love of going to the cinema. They love most films, and they do what, well, load of you do, which is sit around in a pub, have a pint, and waffle on about the films they've seen, or are excited to see. That's what makes this show a bit different: we're two film fans discussing films - just like your mates. In a pub.

Episodios

  • The one with Ocean's 8, Incredibles 2, Sicario 2 and How it ends

    19/07/2018 Duración: 01h03min

Reviews of Ocean's 8, Incredibles 2, Sicario 2 and How it Ends After the unfortunate death of Mat, and a ridiculously long time away, Claire and Simon return to Swindon's legendary Beehive pub for a look at the world of movies. Reviews of Ocean's 8 with THAT cast - Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Anne Hathaway. Is it any good , well, er.... oh look just listen to it will you. Simon caught the Incredibles 2, Pixar's finest film finally gets a sequel - only 14 years after the original. Is it good? Yes, of course it is. Sicario 2 sees Benicio Del Toro get unleashed on the Mexican Drug Cartels by Josh Brolin's CIA enforcer. Shady dealing, high tension scenes and a cruel twist or two. Claire was given homework and dutifully watched Netflix exclusive film How it Ends starring Forrest Whittaker. How does it end? Badly, apparently. All combined with jokes, opinions and Claire loses a pint and several peanuts.   The show is brought to you in association with Sudo headphones. Check them out as we've

  • The one with Deadpool 2, Solo and Happy!

    08/06/2018 Duración: 01h04min

Reviews of Deadpool 2, Solo: A Star Wars Story and Happy! Apologies Claire fans as she's away this week so it falls on the classic duo of Simon and Mat to take a look at the news and perform some reviews. This week we admire Harvey Weinstein's chutzpah (no, not that), giggle over the puppet legal antics on The Happytime Murders, review James Marsden's career (which appears to have ended now he's signed up to Sonic The Hedghog), questioned the need for TopGun 2, and admired just how manly Jeremy Renner actually is. Reviews this week of foul-mouthed mercenary Deadpool's second film with added Josh Brolin and Zazie Beetz (and Rob Delany). We also look at the Han Solo origin film with mucho Chewie and Lando, but also added Paul Bettany, Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton and Emilia Clarke. Finally a look at the utterly bonkers and extremely violent cop/hitman/missing-father/small-pink-unicorn adventure series Happy! with Chris Meloni and the voice of Patton Oswalt. If you like what we do, why not swing by iTunes and

  • The one with Godard, Mon Amour, The Outsider, Anon and Avengers: Infinity War

    18/05/2018 Duración: 01h04min

Admit One reviews Godard, Mon Amour (otherwise known as Le Redoubtable), The Outsider, Anon and Avengers:Infinity War. Simon has seen Michel Hazanavicius' latest film, Le Redoubtable, an examination of the tempestuous relationship between Anne Wiazemsky and Jean-Luc Godard and Godard's switch from making lively fluffy funny films to making lively political polemics. Claire reviews The Outsider starring  Jared Leto as an American G.I. who owes his freedom to the Yakuza in post-WW2 Japan. Simon reviews Netflix release Anon, the latest film from writer director Andrew Niccol. A futuristic retro-noir obsessed with personal technology and the blending of digital and actual reality, the film stars Clive Owen and Amanda Seyfried tangled up in a murder plot. Mat, meanwhile, has visited the actual cinema to see Avengers: Infinity War, the culmination of phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This episode is produced in association with Sudio Headphones, an

  • The one with Lost in Space, Tango One, Elle and The Alienist

    27/04/2018 Duración: 01h07min

Reviews of Lost in Space, Tango One, Elle and The Alienist. Simon Mat and Claire didn't fancy watching Rampage, so it's a Netflix streaming special as the team take a look over some of the wide range of material available on the streaming service. Simon takes a look at the remake of the classic story Swiss Family Robinson, er, I mean Lost in Space - does the megabudget remake stand up as a family adventure series? Claire has been casting her eyes of much praised Paul Verhoven film Elle, starring Isabelle Huppert, and how one strong woman deals with being raped. Simon has gone to the other end of the quality spectrum and watched gangster'n'guns thrller Tango One, based on the book by Stephen Leather. Finally all three take a look at The Alienist, the 1800s set serial killer mystery horror series starring Daniel Bruhl, Dakota Fanning and Wales' finest Luke Evans. Plus news, abuse, and a look back at the life of Verne Troyer.

  • The One with Mute, Peter Rabbit, The Hurricane Heist and A Quiet Place

    20/04/2018 Duración: 01h35s

Mute, finally, gets reviewed, along with Peter Rabbit, The Hurricane Heist and silent horror A Quiet Place. Simon, Mat and Claire return to the Beehive pub, Swindon, Wiltshire for their 50th Episode of the Admit One Movies podcast. Recorded over two days, the show contains a look at Solo: A Star Wars story, a discussion of Netflix's refusal to show anything at Cannes, a week after Cannes refused to show anything that Netflix submitted (sour grapes?). Sony's Peter Rabbit with a miscast James Corden as the voice of lead character gets reviewed, Simon and Claire finally get round to reviewing futuristic noir film Mute from Duncan Jones. Simon provides the shortest ever review of Rob "The Fast and the Furious" Cohen latest film, The Hurricane Heist with Maggie Grace. Finally Mat and Claire hold each other's hands through innovative horror film A Quiet Place with Emily Blunt. Thanks to Back of the Grid F1's Tom, Chris & Stu, and Greg from The All Seeing Guys, both BritPodScene members, wishing us a happy birt

  • The one with Ready Player One, Annihilation, Tomb Raider, but not Mute

    30/03/2018 Duración: 01h14min

Admit One Movies returns with a podcast episode stuffed with goodies.  Spielberg's homage to Spielberg, Ready Player One, hits screens this Friday, but Simon's already seen it at a preview and let's you know if this meta-blockbuster is worth your ten quid. Alicia Viklander takes up the impractical vest of Lara Croft from Angelina Jolie in the new Tomb Raider film. How does it fare against its predecessors, the long back story of the games, and current action adventure films. Once again Simon has braved the multiplex and reports back. For those homebody's about, both Simon and Claire have seen Alex Garland's latest film Annihilation, starring Natalie Portman and Jennifer Jason Leigh and both agree that this should have been a cinema release. It isn't, it's on Netflix, but it is still a cracking sci fi horror that is smart, clever and meaningful. We were going to also review Duncan Jones' Mute, but time ran away from us, so that will appear in a later episode. Mat hasn't been to the cinema, but he has got

  • The one with Red Sparrow, The Shape of water and I, Tonya

    16/03/2018 Duración: 55min

Admit One movies return with three new reviews and one new presenter as Claire joins the boys for a chat and a pint Mat has a piece on the Oscars and there's a discussion about the pointlessness of awards ceremonies in general. Reviews of the surprising-in-all-sorts-of-ways Red Sparrow, the Best Picture winning The Shape of Water (doing it's thing for amphibian romances) and the Oscar winning I,Tonya which is all about mental and physical abuse - and ice skating.

  • The one with The Post, The Cloverfield Paradox and Black Panther

    16/02/2018 Duración: 01h12min

It's Valentines night so let's talk Marvel's Black Panther over a candlelit pint. Some news and a brief reminiscence at the career of the late John Mahoney before Simon and Mat rip into the reviews. The pair of them look at Steven Spielberg's The Post, the Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks-starring journalist flick looking at the first great scandal of the Nixon presidency: The Pentagon Papers. Is it the film of the year, or just a Trump-baiting wannabe? Then a look at The Cloverfield Paradox, a masterpiece of marketing or a film-shaped lump of bad news? With a cast that include David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris O'Dowd and Daniel Bruhl, surely such as surprise has to be good? Finally Mat went and saw Marvel's latest, Black Panther. Is it just another ho-hum superhero flick, or has something genuinely different appeared. How does the first overtly black (and African) superhero flick do? Well, you'll have to listen to find out. As ever jokes, pisstakes and Simon sings (again). Includes Physionics by St

  • The one with All The Money In The World, Darkest Hour and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

    20/01/2018 Duración: 01h07min

Mat and Simon review Darkest Hour, All the Money in the World and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri with a quick look over the 7th Annual Golden Globes and some upcoming movie trailers. And beer. Don't forget the beer.

  • The one with Bright, The Last Jedi and Jumanji

    29/12/2017 Duración: 01h10min

Mat and Simon return with reviews of Jumanji, with The Rock, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan; Star Wars: The Last Jedi with, well, everyone it seems; and Netflix fantasy movie Bright with Will Smith. No news, but we also take a look back over the last twelve months and decide our three best, and three worst films of the year!

  • The one with Justice League, Battle of the Sexes and Ingrid goes west

    08/12/2017 Duración: 59min

"Here comes AdmitOne, Here comes AdmitOne right down Cinema-Lane..." The world spins towards Christmas and Admit One has a bit of a cold-enforced breather. However Simon and Mat return with another packed episode where Mat reviews Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen in Ingrid Goes West, Simon takes a look at Emma Stone and Steve Carrell in 70's tennis drama Battle of the Sexes, and Mat bravely faces down the Justice League.  Plus some news, a lot of gushing over being picked as BritPodScene's podcast of the week, and an impassioned plea for our US listeners to petition their Congressmen and women to vote down the proposed changes to Net Neutrality laws. Don't worry, there are still some jokes. Also, from this episode, we are available on Spotify and Google Play services!

  • The one with Murder on the Orient Express, Thor: Ragnarok, The Shining and Paddington 2

    17/11/2017 Duración: 57min

Murder on the Orient Express brings together an all star cast (and Johnny Depp) in a classic tale of skulduggery and murder. Mat took a look and, like Poirot in a dining room, gives us his opinion.  Simon has seen the bright and breezy Marvel movie Thor:Ragnarok, with extra comedy and bonus Jeff Goldblum. Thor, Loki and the Hulk are stuck on a hostile planet and need to figure out how to get back and kick the Asgard out of that nasty Cate Blanchett. Mat has also seen his beloved The Shining on the big screen for the first time and, naturally, was blown away by the experience. Whilst, for other reasons, Simon was blown away by the sheer cuddliness of Paddington 2. The news is depressing, all sex scandals and heroes' reputations being destroyed before your eyes - it's almost like being a fan of road cycling all over again. Disney are morally dubious, the LA Times won a minor battle and, yes, we do check in on the current status of Mickey Rourke.

  • The one with Blade Runner 2049, Mindhunter, Snowman and Geostorm

    28/10/2017 Duración: 01h14min

The stunning Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villeneuve's much anticipated follow up to 1982's Ridley Scott classic, gets the Admit One treatment and, needless to say, both the boys love it. Also on their good side is another Netflix show, Mindhunter. Directed by David Fincher, with episodes from interesting directors such as Asif Kapadia, and Charlize Theron among the producers, the series has a stunning pedigree. Also with a cast to die for, including pod faves Michael Fassbender, Rebecca Ferguson, J.K. Simmonds, Chloe Sevigny and Val Kilmer, comes The Snowman. Simon disliked the book, so Mat went to see it as he quite likes those crime things. Simon loves a bad film, and many bad films seem to star Gerard Butler. Simon went to see Geostorm, the futuristic political environmental disaster action thriller you didn't know you wanted, in spaaaaace!  We also look at the crimes of Harvey Wienstein, and not just the movie Chocolat and if ever you wanted proof that we do record live in a pub, we get some fun interru

  • The one with mother!, Wind River, Kingsman and Star Trek: Discovery

    06/10/2017 Duración: 01h06min

Simon and Mat return with reviews of Wind River, the latest from Sicario and Hell or High Water scribe Tyler Sheridan, Darren Aronofsky's mother! with Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem, and the riotous Kingsman: The Golden Circle starring seemingly everyone (and Mat tests Simon's movie knowledge on the cast).  The Trek fans in both of them then insists on checking out the latest Star Trek series, Discovery, with Sonequa Martin-Green, Jason Isaacs and Michelle Yeoh.  The pair rip into the lacklustre trailer releases, examine the career of Harry Dean Stanton, explain the importance of X Atencio and #Rourkewatch has an actual newsworthy tale of everyone's favourite Mickey and the bizarre link to retired footballer Rio Ferdinand. Due to stupidity, we ended up alongside the Beehive Cricket Club's AGM and they're ... ... passionate. Apologies for the background noise.

  • Bad Jokes bonus

    16/09/2017 Duración: 13min

Our recordings take a while. They also involve beer. Sometimes they involve jokes. Here, for your listening pleasure, is fifteen minutes of truly terrible jokes and insults edited out from the last episode. We hope it'll raise a smile.

  • The one with Logan Lucky, Detroit, It and American Made

    06/09/2017 Duración: 01h46s

Steven Soderbergh's new heist thriller Logan Lucky, with Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and introducing some guy called Daniel Craig, gets Mat's attentions. Simon casts his eye over Tom Cruise's latest American Made and Katherine Bigelow's powerful Detroit. Mat then puts on his bravery trousers and faces the latest cinematic version of Stephen King's It. Otherwise  there's a distinct lack of news, and Celebrity Deaths (Yay Mickey Rourke still lives), so this week you get a whole fistful of reviews and, sadly, Any Other Business.

  • The one with Atomic Blonde, Hitman's Bodyguard and Dark Tower

    29/08/2017 Duración: 55min

Reviews of Williams, Atomic Blonde, The Hitman's Bodyguard and The Dark Tower The local podcast with most of its listeners in the USA returns, with a working audio file this time (sorry, so sorry) and a load of goodies for your lucky fans. News and gossip to begin with, mostly DCEU focussed with discussions of The Batman and the next Wonder Woman (though not about Patty Jenkins giving a bitch-slap to James Cameron). A swift run through those notable film stars who have passed on since we were last on air. And one who hasn't (#Rourkewatch). Simon has a review of family documentary Williams which is less about the legendary F1 team, and more about the family behind the name. Mat reviews the Charlize Theron 90s set Euro-action flick Atomic Blonde, also starring James McAvoy. More Euro-carnage as Simon reviews Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L Jackson in The Hitman's Bodyguard, which also stars a foul-mouthed Salma Hayek. Final review this week sees Mat cast his eye over Idris Elba and Matthew McConnaughey in the long-a

  • The one with Icarus, The Big Sick and Valarian

    11/08/2017 Duración: 56min

Mat and Simon, complete with furry audience member, take another full throttle dive through the world of film. This time they discuss Disney's streaming service and the affect on Netflix, the next movie from the creator of The Thick of It, Veep and In The Loop; Armando Iannucci. We take a look back at the careers of Martin Landau, Jeanne Moreau and the great Sam Shepherd. Reviews this week are Netflix documentary Icarus, low budget race relations comedy drama The Big Sick and Luc Besson's bonkers return to grand space opera Valerian and the City of a thousand planets.

  • The one with Dunkirk, Despicable Me 3, Thor, Blade Runner and Justice League

    29/07/2017 Duración: 01h10min

Admit One Movies, Wiltshire's premier pub-based movie podcast returns with reviews of Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and Despicable Me 3, as well as a look at the glut of trailers from Comicon including Blade Runner 2049, Thor Ragnarok, Justice League and the oddity that is Bright. We also look back at the lives of George A Romero and John Heard, sort of review War for the Planet of the Apes by basing our review on the other two films that Simon has finally seen and put our meagre support fully behind Jodie Whittaker as Doctor Who.

  • The one with Baby Driver, Transformers, The Mummy and Spiderman!

    07/07/2017 Duración: 01h11min

Admit One turns One! With reviews of Tom Cruise's The Mummy, Tom Holland's Spiderman:Homecoming, Michael Bay's latest robot stomp-fest Transformers: The Last Knight, and Edgar Wright's car chase opus Baby Driver. Plus News, our memories of Barry Norman and some of the usual nonsense all recorded from a pub in Swindon! If you like us, do us a favour and go to ITunes and give us a review. Thanks!
