CTS_ep 135 Night School (1981)
12/06/2018 Duración: 01h07minEpisode 135 is about a 1981 slasher (?) called “Night School”. Whether you enjoy this movie or not, one thing it accomplishes is introducing Rachel Ward as a feature film star. And, while this movie is more giallo than slasher, you might find it to be more of an unflavored giallo. In getting to the featured attraction, your hosts will talk a little about how vendor life at conventions depends a lot on the hustle. Not as much about knitting or staring into your phone. There is also speculation as to how much of Haddonfield , Illinois is employed by the asylum where Michael Myers briefly resides versus the other five or so places we’ve been shown. all of this discussion may be important, but what it all comes down to is what you want from “Highlander”. CTS_ep 134 Shin Godzilla
05/06/2018 Duración: 01h11minEpisode 134 is about a franchise movie that really comes through. "Shin Godzilla” (2016) gives the screaming masses what they want. This list includes a giant monster, lots of urban destruction, actual miniature models where CG would just look bad, and some judicious use of CG where it truly fits. As if that isn’t enough, you get suspense, good writing and good acting. Sure, there are plenty of “Godzilla” films that just deliver on the “guy in a rubber suit stomping on miniature buildings” angle. But when you aren’t busy meditating on why there are so many dying deer in the movies lately or who the hell cast “Highlander” (1986) the way they did, give this one a look! That is, unless you just aren’t a giant fan of giant monsters! Find us on Instagram, where we are @chewingthescenery or easily find us on Facebook. CTS_ep 133 REC and The Ring
29/05/2018 Duración: 01h10minEpisode 133 is one to keep you on your toes. “Oh, because of the thrilling suspense and horror of [REC] and the Ring?” you may ask. Well, sure, there’s that. There’s also the fact that one of your hosts is in New Mexico and another of your hosts brought his wife, Emily to help host the show! After discussing some recently watched movies and sharing a few amusing anecdotes, your hosts get to a small 2007 Spanish film that went big with scares, “[REC]”. You’ll find out that there’s a Spanish equivalent to Doug Jones, with the lanky frame and long fingers. You’ll hear about how this endured some comparisons to the Blair Witch Project, which Jolyon and Emily both thought went too heavy on the motion sickness cam and snotty faces. Then a bit of talk about Richard’s mistaken watch, “The Ring” (2002). With a couple of scholars of Japanese culture, you’re sure to get a few new insights on the story! Now- load up your camera gear, make friends with some firefighters and get ready for whatever's out there! Fi

CTS_ep 132 Mother's Day (1980)
22/05/2018 Duración: 01h23minEpisode 132 finds your three hosts back in the studio, talking about the Tromo-adjacent “Mother’s Day” (1980). Since this episode is several days late for the actual holiday, you might ask, “is timing important?”. Well, the short answer is "no”. The movie doesn’t have anything to do with the holiday itself and turns out to be more of a revenge story. You may consider this movie too goofy to be scary while also being too terrifying to be funny. One thing is for sure, though- it won’t likely make your “hidden gems” list. So, keep in mind that no matter where the psychotic hillbillies are from or what horrors they might inflict, they are some mother’s children. And maybe she’s just as psychotic. CTS_ep 131 Nicholas Brendon Interview!
15/05/2018 Duración: 19minEpisode 131 starts with wind noise and the street sounds of Nashville, but it’s worth listening. That is because Richard is talking with "Coherence" star Nicholas Brendon. Yes, yes, he also did a little show called “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”, and we do get to that eventually. If it takes too long, just blame the comet. Or the altitude. The previously covered movie, “Coherence” is discussed, and you’ll get some insights. Nicky has been appearing at conventions, meeting fans and giving them lots of love. He’s also helping raise awareness for depression by bowling with fans, but don’t worry, he has them put the kiddie bumpers up! Finally, Richard talks “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” with “Xander” himself and dispels any “Chandler” comparisons. It couldn’t BE any less true! #xandler will not trend! But you will hear about the time Matthew Perry came to Nicky’s house and there were no cups. You will hear about what it was like working with Joss Whedon and the brilliant John Ritter. Just remember listeners,

CTS_ep 130 The Ritual
08/05/2018 Duración: 01h11minEpisode 130 is a little different. In Jolyon’s brief absence, Will and Richard welcome back a guest host, Brian to talk about a movie called “The Ritual” (2017). This movie takes you on a "lad’s trip" to a hiking trail in Sweden to memorialize a late friend. “What could go wrong?” you might ask. Well, the group has to take a shortcut due to a leg injury, which means going into the forest. Sure, you could assume that most things in the dark forest are more afraid of you than you are of them. Not this thing. Are there a lot of bad decisions aside from taking a shortcut? No, but that doesn’t mean horrific things don’t happen anyway! So, join your hosts on a trip that will be more thrilling than Brian’s motorcycle ride! Find us on Instagram, where we are @chewingthescenery or easily find us on Facebook. CTS_ep 129 The Bloodlands
01/05/2018 Duración: 57minEpisode 129 teaches us a good lesson. Always watch a movie a second time before recommending it to your co-hosts. At least when you like it at first because it surprises you for having exceeded your low expectations. Yes, “The Bloodlands” (2014) had some good acting, great-looking camera work and lighting, a creepy, suspenseful atmosphere, and some problems. Will wonders why you’d be a hapless boob when you could be a hapless dick? And would this movie work better with ghosts? Also- “Why’d I watch this?” Jolyon adds that the twist is that none of what you’ve watched makes sense! Richard figures that if the menaces had chosen ski masks, the movie would’ve been over in 25 minutes, with the same conclusion. If some of this sounds a little mean, just watch the movie and see where you stand! If you want to have some fun, hear more, and learn what happens when you drop a beer can into a bear trap, escape to the country and give the episode a listen! CTS_ep 128 Stay Outta Those Woods!
24/04/2018 Duración: 01h10minEpisode 128 is a good one for any listeners getting ready for a stay in a cabin, a tent, a vacation house…any of those places in or near the woods. That is, because your hosts are talking about some movies they recommend to set the mood for anyone wanting a good scare. If you’re pretty sure there’s not a head in the toilet and you’re a little too grown up for bullying, ridiculing or pranking, these movies might be just what you’re looking for! So, get out your bug repellant, and put on your short-shorts and half-shirt, because this episode is like a wild canoe ride! CTS_ep 127 Behind the Mask
17/04/2018 Duración: 58minEpisode 127 is about one of those movies that has a long title with a funny name in it. Yes, it’s time for “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon” (2006). We know what you’re thinking: “Hey, isn’t that the name of an old people stuff catalog or something?” No, that’s Lillian Vernon. Neither she nor Walter Drake are making elaborate plans to kill people. Well, at least not that we’re aware of. When your three-part-Voltron team of hosts finally gets past an important discussion of phony Loverboy album titles and various methods of delivering exposition, you’ll hear that they truly enjoyed this week’s featured attraction. It’s a good-looking film that begins by going in and out of documentary footage that’s being shot in real time, then eventually goes into standard movie form. There are interesting characters, a compelling premise and just enough inside jokes to keep true horror fans smiling, but not rolling their eyes. So, if you’re ready for a different take on the slasher movie, this one’s read

CTS_ep 126 Zombies and Resurrection
03/04/2018 Duración: 01h04minEpisode 126 finds your hosts ready for Spring and the resurrection side of “Rabbits and Resurrection”. Have the recently dead returned to life? Are they devouring their victims? Of course! But first, Will has been trying to get through his "to-watch” list, but it keeps piling up! The spider pit scene from "King Kong” (1933) is something that may never be checked off the list. Richard needed something light, so “Downsizing” was the obvious choice! Who doesn’t want to watch a mouse-sized Matt Damon on a large TV? You can bet that your hosts will poke holes in the premise straight away. Jolyon is happy to point out that a show called “Spanky Nurse” could totally exist on the BBC. “Chainsaw Ninja Massacre”, not so much. Then, onto some movies with undead characters doing battle with the living…or as your hosts would call it, “Tuesday”. Now it’s time to conjure up some demons like a hapless boob whilst eating all that half-priced Easter candy! Find us on Instagram, where we are @chewingthescenery or ea

CTS_ep 125 Night of the Lepus
28/03/2018 Duración: 01h03minEpisode 125 has a bit of Easter in mind. Rabbits and resurrection are always good themes, so release the rabbits! Well, since eyebrows girl already did that, get ready for what comes next: bloodthirsty, gigantic rabbits! Or “Lepus” if you prefer the original Latin. It’s doubtful that there is a Latin word for forced perspective or regular-sized rabbits on a miniature set, but that shouldn’t stop you from enjoying this one! “Oh cool- a 1972 made-for-TV movie” you might think. Only if! This was actually an MGM studio release with a very capable cast. Capable of bringing this script to life and making it look awesome? No, there weren’t a cast of wizards! So, when you hear that “boodely boodely boodely” sound, grab some dynamite and join in on the action! You’ll find listening to this episode is even easier than flying a helicopter! CTS_ep 124 It Stains the Sands Red
20/03/2018 Duración: 01h39sEpisode 124 will take you on a slow-speed chase across the Nevada desert, but you will only have the help of two of your hosts. That’s right, Will and Richard discuss “It Stains the Sands Red” (2016), which is not just another zombie movie. This one has few of the usual tropes and some original ideas about what a woman can do when that one annoying guy just won’t stop! Did we mention that this one guy is an undead cannibal? Well, at least he’s wearing a suit! Will and Richard resist the temptation to re-write scripts or construct elaborate fan fiction, but a few story ideas are batted about. You know what else is under the lens of podcast scrutiny? Something Richard calls the “Wilhelm Ricochet”. There’s even a sound bite! So, before you think too much about whether Tim Burton gets just the right amount of hate for his "Planet of the Apes" movie, get your clear platform shoes on, grab a bottle of water and join your hosts for a nice, sandy walk through a different kind of zombie movie. CTS_ep 123 Catch Up
13/03/2018 Duración: 01h30minEpisode 123 just settles in with your hosts for a little catching up. Two weeks ago you got Dana Gould, a remarkable guest and a tough act to follow. Then there was a busy week which had your hosts in different places, having adventures and, of course, watching stuff. Richard has tales of Emerald City Comic Con and vendor life on the road. Jolyon tells of an old educational film about the perils of playing in a very dangerous area…England! As a bit of mind bleach, he also talks about finally seeing "Fast Times at Ridgemont High”. Aside from just that one scene. You know the one. Richard talks about his connection to a real-life character from the story behind “I, Tonya”. Hey- have you ever thought that “The Leftovers” would be better used as a title for a Food Network horror series? Just think of the things wrapped in foil! You may find yourself contemplating which you’d rather fight, 2,000 duck-sized maniacs or one maniac-sized duck, or when to use the Jedi Mind Trick, but none of that matters. Wha

CTS_ep 122 Dana Gould!
27/02/2018 Duración: 01h29minEpisode 122 finds your kind hosts joined by comedian, writer, producer, actor, podcaster and horror nerd extraordinaire, Dana Gould! You may know him from comedy specials, his TV show “Stan Against Evil”, appearances in “Tales of Halloween” and “Southbound”, but he also was a writer on “The Simpsons” for several years. Dana talks to your hosts about what does and doesn’t “put the wind in his kazoo” and whether he’d be ready to step in to relieve Svengoolie, should he ever want to retire. Have you ever wondered if debris from Planet of the Apes remained after Ape City was bulldozed? You’ll hear from a guy who has a backpack full! The same guy who keeps ending up dressed as Dr. Zaius, and when appropriate, giving condolences for a friend’s loss. You’ll hear about his friendship with Vampira. You’ll hear about Plan 9 From Outer Space and how Dana ended up with one of the original flying saucers. You’ll even hear about the time he met Vincent Price! Do we have your attention now?!! CTS_ep 121 Slumber Party Massacre
20/02/2018 Duración: 01h06minEpisode 121 will thrill you. It’ll drill you. It might even kill you. Okay, so maybe that is taking it too far. Your hosts will, however, try to make some sense of the 1982 slasher movie, “The Slumber Party Massacre”. Although this one is fabled to have started as a parody, the execution ended up being an attempt at a more serious slasher. Did the humor that remained stick the landing? Listen and find out! Your hosts will discuss some recently watched movies and TV, but sometimes that can be more fun than the featured attraction. So, if you hear that strange Honky Tonk music, take cover! CTS_ep 120 All Them Frankensteins!
13/02/2018 Duración: 01h13minEpisode 120 is an indirect way into “Women in Horror Month”. Your host have a look at the way Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” has been interpreted (and misinterpreted) in film over the years. Will watched four, which included “Frankenstein’s Army” (2013). Jolyon watched several, only one of which he described as “ a really wretched, sleazy, scummy, bad-looking European Frankenstein movie”. Just remember, he’s the polite one! Richard had a look at the 1957 Hammer classic “The Curse of Frankenstein”, starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. He enjoyed it, but may be about 60 years late with a sequel idea! When it comes down to it, you can re-animate all the puppies you want, but don’t marry your cousin! CTS_ep 119 The Beyond (1981)
06/02/2018 Duración: 01h16minEpisode 119 starts out a little differently. Your hosts address some thoughts and observations an Instagram user had about the “Wicker Man” remake starring Nicolas Cage. This is always worth a conversation because Nic Cage never fails to give 100%…..minimum. Will draws lines between Batman and the San Diego Chicken as well as some Druids and Goth rave people. You’ll also hear about that time some hamsters got into the giant G.I. Joe aircraft carrier. Then, on to Lucio Fulci’s “The Beyond” (1981). The most important thing to keep in mind when going into this one is that you shouldn’t be held back by logic or things needing to make sense. Stuff like that doesn’t get in Fulci’s way. Are his movies all models of screenplay excellence? Well, perhaps not, but horror movie fans should have a lot of fun nonetheless! Now, grab your German Shepherd puppet and some Bromo Seltzer, because we’re all gonna stop making sense! Find us on Instagram, where we are @chewingthescenery or easily find us on Facebook. Che

CTS_ep 118 Coherence and The House of the Devil
30/01/2018 Duración: 01h10sEpisode 118 gives you only two of your three hosts, but they take on twice the usual number of movies. That’s right, Will and Richard discuss “Coherence” (2013) and “The House of the Devil” (2009). What drives this sort of ambition? Well, when you consider that there are movie watchers out there who don’t want anything that’s “too thinky” or that lacks pirates, maybe it’s time to talk about lots of other stuff. You know, stuff that’s actually good! Those opinions may vary in this episode, but you’ll come away with at least one solid recommendation. So, if you think you’re ready, order that pizza, grab a glow stick and get ready to do the dimensional splits! Find us on Instagram, where we are @chewingthescenery or easily find us on Facebook. CTS_ep 117 Fright Night (1985)
23/01/2018 Duración: 01h08minEpisode 117 is about a 1985 vampire movie that has some laughs as well as some scares. Times were different, so one might wonder how the comedy and the horror hold up. Your hosts will get into that after discussing some other things. For example, Jolyon celebrates Frankenstein’s 200th birthday with a great book. Will watched a movie aptly described as “What if a Canadian Ed Wood made Star Wars?”. He’ll explain the glorious results! Richard watched a documentary about career and hobbyist haunters, some of whom have mentally and physically abusive haunted attractions. Don’t worry, they don’t do anything as bad as making you watch the Nicolas Cage remake of “The Wicker Man” (2006), with or without bees. Then, on to “Fright Night” (1985). Your hosts reflect on hazy memories of early viewings. Will and Richard have differing opinions of the "Evil Ed" character. Will figures him to be the “Foxy Grandpa” character of this one and Richard just thinks he’s the best part of the whole movie. Jolyon truly like

CTS_ep 116 Argento's Dracula
16/01/2018 Duración: 01h01minEpisode 116 is about a movie that has the allure of a big name attached to it. Well, two if you count "Dracula”. Yes, we’re talking about “Dario Argento’s Dracula 3D” (2012). Dario may have lost his mojo some time prior to making this one. Of course, this doesn’t mean it isn’t fun to talk about. Will figures that the $5.99 Richard spent on the used DVD is about double what the box office returns were. Richard recently watched Argento’s “Inferno” (1980). To describe this one sounds like you’re making it up. Jolyon recently watched three other Argento films, all of which were “Suspiria” (1977). That’s right. If you are looking forward to Rutger Hauer strolling in and lighting up the screen as Van Helsing, you’ll have to wait. An hour and 14 minutes, to be exact. But then you finally get a Dutch guy playing this Dutch guy. A cinematic first! Another first is Dracula turning into an owl! You know what isn’t a cinematic first? Asia Argento nude! So, there’s something for everyone. Now, it’s time to
