  • CTS_ep 115 Ghost House

    09/01/2018 Duración: 01h44s

Episode 115 finds your hosts discussing a movie that warns you not to mess around with ghosts and their tiny houses. Or uncharacteristically impolite Brits and their motivations. Did we mention this all takes place in Thailand? Well, it does and that may be the whole reason for this movie: a trip to Thailand! Yes, your hosts watched “Ghost House” (2017). Will apologizes for throwing a dart at Netflix and sticking us all with this one. You can still have fun with it. Maybe there’s a drinking game hiding in there somewhere! Jolyon gets a written response from “Creature from the Black Lagoon” star Julie Adams and shares it with you! Richard shares a conspiracy theory about “Ghost House” and a possibility of Rob Zombie meddling! What are the shocking parallels between “Suspiria” and “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”? Is there a free chainsaw waiting for you at the airport in Bulgaria? In what year should the Marilyn Manson jittery walking effect have stopped showing up in movies? Listen and you will

  • CTS_ep 114 Suspiria 4K!

    02/01/2018 Duración: 01h25min

Episode 114 has your hosts wishing you all a Happy New Year! Yes, we happily welcome 2018 with a discussion of recently watched films followed by a dive into Dario Argento’s “Suspiria” (1977). Just some old DVD that was lying around? No no no, we watched the brand new, dazzling 4K restoration by Synapse Films. Richard pre-ordered the steelbook a couple of months ago and it arrived in time for all your hosts to watch it. The COLOR! The SOUND! Suspiria looks and sounds better than ever! Hey, was there ever a Goblin Christmas TV Special? Did Worf play Tiny Tim in Patrick Stewart’s version of “A Christmas Carol”? You’ll find out! You’ll also find out that nothing says Christmas like David Lynch’s “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me” (1992). Now, it’s time to rock down to MC Escher Avenue, so don’t forget that if your ballet school falls apart while bursting into flames, tuition is non-refundable! • CTS_ep 113 Christmas Extravaganza 2017!

    25/12/2017 Duración: 01h03min

Episode 113 is another Christmas Extravaganza! “Wow!” you might think, “These guys probably went bananas with this one!”. Why, sure….bananas are festive. At the very least, your fair hosts each picked some Christmas horror movies that didn’t lean too heavily on the killer Santas and gave them a watch. In an unrelated matter, Will points out that sex should be dirty and wear a tight leather mask. Jolyon tells you to not expect Filipino Pam Grier movies to have a lot of Pam Grier in them. Richard reports on some late-breaking developments in the making of the new “Halloween” movie. Could the original “shape" be back? Listen and find out! But for now, make sure your dork friend is into your scheme chin-deep before you tell him about the whole murder thingy. 19/12/2017 Duración: 01h07min

    Episode 112 finds your hosts recently back from attending a limited early-release of "The Shape of Water" (2017) from writer-director Guillermo del Toro. Did he get every little thing right? In a way, yes. Did he get every big thing right? Well, no, but that's the discussion you should hear! #horror #horrormovies #horrornerd #horroraddict #horrorjunkie #monsterkid #bmovie #scarymovies #monstermovie #podcast #chewingthescenery #zombies #zombie #VHS #moviemonsters #freepodcast #denver #colorado #everydayishalloween #halloween #horrorpodcast #theshapeofwater #thecreaturefromtheblacklagoon #GuillermodelToro

  • CTS_ep 111 Wintry Three

    12/12/2017 Duración: 01h19min

Episode 111 is a Winter tradition here at Chewing The Scenery. Yes, that’s right, your trio of hosts watch a trio of “Wintry” horror movies, then gather to discuss them. These ain’t no killer Santa movies, neither. Not talking’ bout no evil snowmen….just good ol’ fashioned isolation mixed with snow and a force of doom. Supernatural or otherwise. Sound good? Well, climb aboard the "Horror Express” and cross “The Devil’s Pass” on your way to becoming “Cold Prey”. Just remember to bring a friend who can set a broken bone and another who can fix a generator. Will knows a guy who can distill whiskey, maybe that’ll be good enough. • CTS_ep 110 Blood Rage

    28/11/2017 Duración: 01h03min

Episode 110 celebrates the American tradition of Thanksgiving with the 80’s slasher, “Blood Rage”(1987). Before getting into the featured attraction, your hosts talk about recently watched movies, some of which show the rubber shark waaaaaay too much. In some cases, literally. Have you ever pondered how Bill Paxton would’ve done as Jack Torrence in “The Shining”? Maybe you should. Then, that which cannot be ignored, “Blood Rage” is discussed. Jolyon watched it, Richard watched it and Will watched "Blood Rage”…twice! This is a movie that delivers on the nudity and the gore, which is what you’d ask of any decent 80’s slasher. The individual victims may not have a great sense of urgency when trying to escape the killer, but at least they team up to make a great body count! As Will puts it: “This is just the kind of crap I would’ve loved at age 12”. So, grab a seat at the card table, dish up some turkey and stuffing, but be careful, because that’s not cranberry sauce!!! • CTS_ep 109 The Autopsy of Jane Doe

    21/11/2017 Duración: 01h09min

Episode 109 is about what happens when a father-and-son outfit takes care of the medical examiner duties in a small town. The usual stuff occurs- people die, cops bring in bodies, they tie bells to their feet, cut them open and shoot video of the whole thing. If that’s not enough, this movie has the original Hannibal Lecter, Speed Racer and a naked lady! Okay, okay, you’re wondering if it has witchery in it. Well, yes and no, but you’ll see when you watch the film. It may all be moldy rye induced hallucinations, but don’t believe everything the Industrial Witch Complex™ tells you. Will this movie win awards for "Best Corpse of the Year”? Perhaps. You may be left with more questions than answers at the end of this one, but one thing is for sure: if you love the Cox, this movie is for you! You know, Brian Cox…the guy from Manhunter, Super Troopers and Zodiac. #horror #horrormovies #horrornerd #horroraddict #horrorjunkie #monsterkid #bmovie #scarymovies #monstermovie #podcast #chewingthescenery #zombies

  • CTS_ep 108 Psycho (1960)

    14/11/2017 Duración: 01h20min

Episode 108 is an episode dedicated to the masterpiece of film known as “Psycho” (1960). Alfred Hitchcock took everything that was reliably successful for him in a string of great films and put it aside. The brilliance of super saturated Technicolor and a star-studded cast were traded for a Black and White film of mostly unknown actors in a story based on a brand-new novel by Robert Bloch. The most recognizable star’s character is killed off about 20 minutes into the film. How did it do? The movie was wildly successful both in terms of critical response and box office returns. But that’s not all. Alfred Hitchcock gave us one of the most iconic sequences in cinematic history- the shower scene. These 78 setups and 52 cuts, set to Bernard Herrmann’s score still hold up today. Has it been a while? Give “Psycho” (1960) a watch and join your hosts for an episode that’s more fun than stuffing birds! #horror #horrormovies #horrornerd #horroraddict #horrorjunkie #monsterkid #bmovie #scarymovies #monstermovie

  • CTS_ep 107 A Dark Song

    07/11/2017 Duración: 01h15min

Episode 107 has one major flaw and one major virtue. The flaw is that Jolyon wasn’t able to be on this episode, and the virtue is that Will and Richard got to talk about “A Dark Song” (2016). “But aren’t the episodes a lot more funny when Will hates a movie?” you might ask. Well, life isn’t just about laughs and there is plenty of fun to be had anyway. For example: Richard runs down his “31 Days of Halloween” watch list and then really goes off on the dumb use of a blonde Michael Myers mask in “Halloween 4, the Return of Michael Myers”(1988). Will and his lovely wife watched a few “Chucky” movies, which had plenty of vulgarities and cute, tiny shoes. Then they kicked off “Noirvember”, a commitment to watch a film noir movie each day of November. Will even drops some knowledge about what defines the genre! Then, on to the featured attraction. Will and Richard may not be sure how to pronounce “Abramelin”, but they have plenty of knowledge and history about it, which they share. Are you ready to open t

  • CTS_ep 106 Halloween Round-up!

    31/10/2017 Duración: 01h23min

Episode 106 finds your kind hosts wishing one and all a Happy Halloween! In addition to sharing a few memories of Halloweens past, your hosts go on to discuss some recently watched movies, including one filmed in Denver! Will and Richard have managed to watch a horror movie a day for the month of October and have a full report. Jolyon reports on a Salem witch trial happening on his street. No actual witches have been harmed in the making of it, but maybe it’ll attract a few more trick-or-treaters this year! It’s time to dust off the old “Welcome Back, Kotter” costume and get dressed up, otherwise you won’t get any cigarettes…just a handful of raisins! #horror #horrormovies #horrornerd #horroraddict #horrorjunkie #monsterkid #bmovie #scarymovies #monstermovie #podcast #chewingthescenery #zombies #zombie #VHS #moviemonsters #freepodcast #denver #colorado #talesofhalloween #31daysofhalloween #ahorrormovieaday #everydayishalloween #halloween #horrorpodcast

  • CTS_ep 105 Cult of Chucky

    24/10/2017 Duración: 01h19min

Episode 105 talks about the new release that went straight to streaming and tangible media, "Cult of Chucky" (2017). This one, however, isn't like the "straight-to-video" schlock you've seen before. The latest Chucky movie is good-looking, full of scares and even meets the gore standards of most horror fans. Before getting into all of that, your hosts spend some time talking about what they've seen since last time. Will and Richard both have been watching one horror movie a day since October 1 and have a lot to share. Jolyon has been a little busy for that but has some good ones to talk about nonetheless. Will imagines that "Baby Driver" has a CG baby voiced by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson. Richard points out that you have to add a star to horror movies on any rating system because enough non-horror fans rate things to throw it off by at least that much. Now, put on your tiny cute shoes and find a good hiding place or this episode will smash your head like it's made of cake! #horror #horrormovies #horrorne

  • CTS_ep 104 The Mummy (2017)

    17/10/2017 Duración: 01h24min

Episode 104 is all about taking one for the team. Do we mean that team of military mavericks doing what it takes to get the treasure and the cursed mummy? No, we mean your team of podcasters doing what it takes to watch the Tom Cruise vehicle known as “The Mummy”(2017). “Oh come on- is it really that bad?” you might ask. Well, they spent a lot of money on it. It had underwater swimming zombies. They built realistic foam props inside a jet called “the Vomit Comet” in order to film a zero G scene of a jet crashing. Because Tom said. And who knows horror better than Tom Cruise? But, the plot isn’t clear at all. Jolyon even tried to read the opinions of people who defended the movie and couldn’t find any. Will suspects that’s because the movie is “Dull, boring and incompetent”. Universal launching their “Dark Universe” with a movie that is not scary at all is a big risk, which doesn’t seem to be paying off. This may explain the postponement of the “Bride of Frankenstein” re-make. Perhaps they’ll do s

  • CTS_ep 103 Night of the Demons

    10/10/2017 Duración: 01h25min

Episode 103 takes you back to 1988. It was a simpler time…a time before smart phones and the internet, a time before Uber and social media…a time AFTER the best 80’s horror had already been made! “Night of the Demons” (1988) does some things really well, but writing and most of the acting aren’t those things. Before getting into all of that, your hosts turn a seldom-used word into an obscenity and talk about recently watched movies. Will saw a 70’s-riffic movie that had some cat hurling. He also saw a Bava film that had “people being murdered constantly in beautiful scenes”. Jolyon talks about that awkward moment when a film literally tells you the adorable couple you’re watching is adorable. Richard watched “Nosferatu” (1922) which holds up beautifully, no matter how you pronounce it. Have you ever wondered, “Are we okay to be attracted to puppets? I mean, really sexy ones.”? Well, you may be in good company! But enough about “Mad Monster Party” (1967). “Night of the Demons” may not trust the audie

  • CTS_ep102 Tales of Halloween

    03/10/2017 Duración: 01h11min

Episode 102 ushers in that most wonderful time of the year. Yes, the month of Halloween! Spooky fun fact: three out of ten storage units have a dead body in them. Just ask Will, he’ll tell you it’s true! Speaking of spooky, your hosts have that Halloween feeling and “Tales of Halloween” (2015) is just the thing! Would this be perfect to play in the background during a party? Well, it may not be NOTLD or "The Thing from Another World”, but yes, indeed! There are ten stories and they are a lot of scary fun. Many of Hollywood’s horror stars, directors and horror nerds populate the Tales. Is it as much fun as a "Darling Pet Monkey”? Yes, and with about half the clean-up required! Is it as cool as Vincent Price’s shrunken apple head kit? We think so, and it’s easier to find! Just like Cool Hand Luke said he could eat fifty eggs, at least two of your hosts will be going for a horror movie a day for "31 Days of Halloween”. And without George Kennedy around to help! So, get an early start so you don’t hav

  • CTS_ep101 The Lost Boys and Retrospective

    26/09/2017 Duración: 01h31min

Episode 101 is about a movie that one host called “the mainstream idea of cool”. It didn’t entirely "respect the vampire mythos". It had a “Foxy Grandpa” in it. There was an “Oily Sax Man” and a lot of mullets. It was “The Lost Boys” (1987). Before leaping from the train trestle and into the movie, your hosts journey into Jolyon’s 1 1/2 Star Movie Marathon (not exactly a deliberate thing) and some other recently watched movies from Will and Richard. Next, your hosts give some distinctions and awards to movies from the first 100 episodes of the podcast. There are truly some gems here! Then, at long last- “The Lost Boys”. Will couldn’t hide from it forever! Foxy Grandpa had a score to settle, and a re-watch was the only way! Is this why Will’s wife found him with the thousand yard stare? Was it worth the rental price? Had his place of work burned down, taking Sad Sack #219 with it? Listen and find out! So, pass the Windex™, because on a scale from Chaka to Chewbacca, this episode is a monster! #ho

  • CTS_ep 100 It

    19/09/2017 Duración: 01h18min

Episode 100. Say it out loud. Just let those syllables roll around on your tongue for a moment. Was making it to a 100th episode something to survive? Are your hosts having fun? Well, that all depends on how much they like or dislike their featured attraction! The 2017 telling of Stephen King’s “It” is up for discussion and maybe a bit of a rant from one of your hosts. Spoilers are within along with a bit of tough criticism. And some love….just like in real life! Is “It” just “Stand by Me” meets “A Nightmare on Elm Street 3”? A case can be made for that. Maybe if we all pitched in to get Will some video editing software, all horror movies could finally be 90 minutes as nature intended. That could eliminate redundant jump-scares and focus more on floppy broken arms. But then, what would we do about the unforgivable 1976 “King Kong”? Now it’s time to meet a child-eating evil clown that dwells in the sewers and lives on fear and box office millions. Keep in mind that you may have to wait another 27

  • CTS_ ep 99 Foundations and Game-Changers

    12/09/2017 Duración: 01h35min

Episode 99 is all about what made your kind hosts the way they are…well, as far as being fans of the horror genre. If that isn’t enough, you’ll also find out what movies came along and shook up all of what they knew. Yes, the “game changers”! Before getting into all of that, Will tells you about the 4K restoration of “Suspiria” (1977). It surpassed even his wildest expectations! And for a guy who once assumed “Gremlins” was an exact remake of “E.T.”, his expectations can be tricky! Did you know Richard had pizza and horror movies on Saturday nights for most of his early childhood? True story! You’ll go on to hear about the misguided movie choices of Richard’s parents, the best efforts of Jolyon’s parents to avoid the full-color scares, and the crucifix-acquiring skills of Will’s folks! Although this episode has its fair share of dogs and helicopters, it also has the story of the time Jolyon went to see “Zombie” and it wasn’t a Fulci film. You guessed it- it was “Dawn of the Dead”! So, WHEN (not "if"

  • CTS_ep 98 Tobe Hooper Tribute

    05/09/2017 Duración: 01h34min

Episode 98 is a regular episode, but also our tribute to the late, great director, Tobe Hooper. Your hosts will talk about what they’ve watched lately and then get into some recently re-watched Hooper favorites. You can bet your roadkill that "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre” (1974) is at the top of the list, but you’ll also hear about “The Funhouse” (1981) and “Poltergeist” (1982) as well as a few other favorites. Hooper’s style is up for conversation and some “Chain Saw” facts are shared. So, get settled in and enjoy the ramblings of three friends in a shed at the bottom of a garden. #horror #horrormovies #horrornerd #horroraddict #horrorjunkie #monsterkid #bmovie #scarymovies #monstermovie #podcast #chewingthescenery #zombies #zombie #VHS #moviemonsters #freepodcast #denver #colorado #creaturefeature #creaturefeatures #indiefilms #indiehorror #thetexaschainsawmassacre #texaschainsawmassacre #tobehooper #thefunhouse #salemslot #poltergeist #riptobehooper #leatherface #tcm

  • CTS_ep 97 Embodiment of Evil

    29/08/2017 Duración: 01h22min

Episode 97 introduces the uninitiated listeners to the works of José Mojica Marins, aka “Coffin Joe”. His works of independent cinematic art tend to shock and horrify, but in a way that feels almost like a surreal documentary. The participants are all too willing to serve their master - an amoral undertaker has no limits to his evil doings! Before all of that is discussed, your hosts talk about what they’ve watched (or imagined) since last episode. They attempt to answer such questions as - is the illegal ivory black market called “the rough trade”? Is “The Trial of the Incredible Hulk” even a real movie? What does DNA science do in “Blackenstein” that just isn’t possible? Could “Casket Dave” take over the top-hatted persona of evil madman with a lust for a pure bloodline or would he just end up in court? Listen to the not-yet-hundredth episode to find out! • CTS_ep 96 The Devil's Candy

    22/08/2017 Duración: 01h18min

Episode 96 offers up a dish of everyone’s favorite. No, not candy corn, “The Devil’s Candy”(2015)! First, your hosts welcome guest host Brian (and his giant ice cube) to the show then talk about a bunch of stuff they’ve watched lately. Jolyon got into some black action movies and even uncovered a Pam Grier movie he hadn’t seen. And, as you might expect, there was an “Exorcism” and a “Purge” movie thrown in for good measure. Will is into anything that could be re-titled “Pardon My Murder” and offers “The Trial of The Incredible Hulk” (1989) as a perfect movie. Your host suggest James Bond replacements and then finally discuss the movie. Did the tracksuit guy overbuy when he got the Flying V guitar and the amp? Are those whispering Devil voices more realistic than the family dynamics we witness in this movie. Richard doesn’t care about any of that, he’d watch them in just about any story set-up in any genre you could name. As movie discussion goes a little off the rails, we find out what Will likes to
