  • #88 – NON-PROFIT – Palm Beach Zoo – 2016-07-30

    08/08/2016 Duración: 53min

Palm Beach Zoo’s Membership Manager, Amanda Joy, and Animal Curator, Amy Anderson, are two of the warmest, most lovely people I have ever met, and they made this podcast everything I could have hoped it would be and more! As we stood by the capybara exhibit (where I had to refrain from freaking out from pure excitement), these ladies shared their infectious enthusiasm for working with these wonderful animals. They conveyed the Zoo’s message and mission of conservation and education and how they see these animals in their care as ambassadors for their brethren in the wild. The sound of the Zoo’s animals all around us was just a symphony of confirmation of the beauty of our planet’s beautiful creatures. How much Amy and Amanda truly love and care for the animals is completely obvious. They have a true passion for what they do, and it was a privilege to have them on! Special thanks to Naki Carter (ncarter@palmbeachzoo.org), the Zoo’s award-winning Public Relations Manager who is absolutely amazing in setting th

  • #87 – ACTOR AND MUSICIAN – David Abeles - 2016-07-29

    01/08/2016 Duración: 54min

I was absolutely delighted to see my old high school friend come back to the south Florida theater scene last March. David Abeles came through the Kravis Center on his Broadway tour of Matilda the Musical, playing the dominant and imposing role of Miss Trunchbull. I took my son to go see my friend do what I know he does best, and we were both so delighted by Dave’s performance and the entire cast and production! What a treat!! Dave and I went to high school together at Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale, and I always knew he would grow up to give his talents as a gift to the world. He was one of those people who just had that “it” factor; but, what makes him so special is that he is truly humble. On this podcast, he shares the story of his journey from Broward County to London to New York, and what life is like as an actor on the move!! Follow Dave on Twitter as @iAmDavidAbeles! • #86 – CTCKids – DJ & Music Composer – Alex Ariete (Alexander Popovics) – 2016-07-19

    25/07/2016 Duración: 41min

In this episode, I catch up with young and super-talented DJ & music composer, Alex Ariete! You may remember Alex as one of my very first CTC Kid from episode 11—back when he was known by his original stage name, DJ Pop Drop. Each time I see Alex out and about, it’s incredible how much he’s grown—physically and musically. Since we last sat down, Alex has continued to develop his skills as a musician—creating new original tracks, playing a bunch of gigs, traveling for different events and things, meeting amazing EDM mentors, and collaborating with different artists. On top of that, Alex continues to excel at his dance, competing regularly and doing very well! He’s simply a powerhouse of young, ambitious, and promising talent. On the podcast, we talk about how he’s grown musically and artistically and how important his parents’ support continues to be. Catch Alex on Palm Beach FM every other Tuesday night where he is not only a resident DJ, but is also starting to conduct his own industry interviews. I’m s

  • #85 – POET, WRITER, AND DIRECTOR – Jessica “Empress Prestige” McCready - 2016-07-17

    18/07/2016 Duración: 01h11min

Founder of Poetry In Motion Productions: (PIMP!), Jessica, now known as “Empress Prestige,” knows a thing or two about doing her own thing. She began what started as an unformed idea mass four years ago and worked it into what is now a thriving, repeat project of her own unique concept: ChoreoPoems. These are forms of dramatic expression that combine poetry, dance, music and song. She conceptualizes the overall story arc, directs the talent, and produces the overall program; but, what makes her plays so unique is that she leaves creative license for each role and its expression to the individual player. Essentially, the cast writes much of the content and she threads it together into a cohesive, intelligent expression of her story. Their next project is the 4th installment of Pleasant City Thee ChoreoPoem to be shown soon at The Palm Beach Improv and The Mozart Theatre. Also, Empress is working to bring this piece into the forum of a film called Thee Movie. So exciting!! Her storytelling has community and cu

  • #84 – BONUS: EVENT – Pokemon Go at the Palm Beach Zoo - 2016-07-16

    18/07/2016 Duración: 08min

Welcome to a BONUS episode of the Curve the Cube Podcast. It is just a bonus, but still very worthy of a number. So, it’s #84! It’s been a while since I’ve covered an event, and this was very impromptu, but still very fun. (To hear the last event I covered, you will have to rewind to episode #60 where I covered an art gallery opening and then pretty far back to episode #16 with the Shock Pop Comic Con.) In THIS episode, I get to geek out about the phenomenon of Pokémon Go! There is one local spot that is taking FULL advantage: The Palm Beach Zoo! They laid down some lures and transformed their park full of Pokéstops into a Pokémon trainer’s dream. Sending out a map ahead of time, the zoo primed the local masses to get their teams together and have a #PokemonGo invasion… and it worked!! A newbie trainer myself, I was SO JAZZED to get out there and go hunting for Pokémon. So, I had my map ready and spent a fun evening capturing Exeggcutes, Pinsirs, Poliwags, and TONS more. The fountain area was particularly li

  • #83 – PHOTOGRAPHER – Estelle DeShocka - 2016-07-01

    11/07/2016 Duración: 56min

I’ve been an admirer of Estelle DeShocka’s photography for quite some time—watching her in action at various events and then seeing the amazing results online. She is quick on her feet and truly takes such great shots! I’m so glad that on this podcast, I got to finally talk to her more in depth about all the amazing photos she captures at other photo shoots and I then see her share through her various social media outlets. (My favorite was definitely the zombie wedding!) Estelle and I get into the types of photo shoots she likes best, where she gets her great theme ideas, how she secures her models and additional vendors and more. She even gives me insight into a very valuable insides source for some of her most amazing props and locations. She has been carrying around a camera since the time of her earliest memories. With a mom in graphic design to learn from and an unending devotion to her craft to develop her skills, Estelle is sure to continue to take her photography and career to the next level! Follow

  • #82 – Musician – Myles “Trufe” Robinson – 2016-06-28

    05/07/2016 Duración: 01h14min

Raised amongst generations of musicians, Myles “The Trufe” Robinson was destined to find the rhythm of his own musical beat. He uses his talent to dig into often difficult issues with a message that is always raw and real. Speaking to his most inner and honest emotions, his flows are smooth and captivating. However, it is his work ethic that has had him rising about the rest. There are no participation trophies handed out in the music industry, and Myles has put in every ounce of the hard work it takes to really make it and be taken seriously. On this podcast, Myles talks about the importance of smart, chemistry-driven collaboration and the meaning of a hard day’s work. A young dad with more than one job, Myles is more determined than the average dreamer, and his hard work is paying off! Watch out for his upcoming projects—including “The Calm Before the Storm” with guest #80, Uzi 311. • #81 – RADIO – Virginia Sinicki - 2016-06-24

    27/06/2016 Duración: 01h19min

I have had the pleasure of knowing Virginia Sinicki of the KVJ Show for a number of years now, and she's never ceased being an amazing source of girl power. She is a dedicated enthusiast of all things celebrity, gossip, and pot-stirring, and brings her unique comedic voice to our local airwaves every weekday morning on 97.9 WRMF. From good dirt and hilarious bits to charity events and KVJ Nation comradery, I've been a fan of all things KVJ for years. Virginia's counterparts, Kevin Rolston and Jason Pennington, have both graced this podcast in the past, and I'm so happy to now complete that trifecta!! She has a true passion for what she does, crafting her skills over the years, honing her talents for promotional spots and event hosting, and giving of herself to her special charity, Little Smiles of Florida. She is a real example of working hard to gain success at what you do, and I was excited to sit down with her to share some sangria and inside industry scoop!! • #80 – RAPPER AND HIP HOP ARTIST – Uzochi “Uzi 311” Onyejuruwa - 2016-06-21

    22/06/2016 Duración: 01h01min

Uzi 311, a.k.a., “Florida’s Finest” is one of the most driven people I have ever met. Discovering his talent for rap and hip hop at an early age, Uzi focused his mind toward developing it into a true craft. He is a masterful freestyle artist, purposeful writer, and commanding entertainer who is never finished improving himself. Catch Uzi at a show, and you are catching a glimpse of the future of hip hop. On this podcast, Uzi gives up the goods on getting your foot in the door, working hard, and making it happen! He is equally charming and insightful, and it is hard to imagine anything but pure success in this gifted artist’s future. • #79 – REGGAE MUSICIAN – Paul Anthony II - 2016-06-10

    13/06/2016 Duración: 54min

I had the pleasure of first meeting Paul Anthony at the invitation of a previous guest—Cohen Robinson—who was performing with a select group of local music talent he had gathered for his Sets in the West concert last month (catch episode #77). When I saw Paul perform, I was mesmerized. He oozes natural musicianship and was a polished performer. I was hooked and knew that I HAD to have him on the podcast! On this episode, we talk about his “why”—what inspires him to make his music (particularly his original songs), the hustle behind booking gigs, and the work it takes to create his albums. Paul’s musical roots run deep with a father highly accomplished in the business, but he is working to pave his own path and legacy. With his band, the Reggae Souljahs, Paul is proving that south Florida continues to be a strong platform for a determined rising reggae star. Whether you want to be a musician or are just looking for the inspiration to follow your own dreams and curve your own cube, this episode is for you!!

  • #78 – YOGA INSTRUCTOR, MUSICIAN, AND MOTIVATOR – Jamie Scott Harris - 2016-05-27

    06/06/2016 Duración: 01h28s

I met Jamie Scott Harris one random Friday when my son and I were out walking with a friend of ours and her dogs. He was meditating in the park and we eventually struck up a conversation about yoga, life, and purpose. By the end of it, I knew I had to have him as a guest! After pursuing a career in yoga instruction and finding himself in a new state, Jamie came to a new path of his journey through life. He discovered a transformational mentorship group called My Life My Power, and his life mission was suddenly and dramatically expanded. Coupled with Gratitude Training and his guitar, Jamie now leads a life focused on uplifting others in their own passions and dreams. (Sound familiar??) In our podcast, Jamie delivers a very powerful message about finding and living your authentic self, sloughing off that which burdens you and is not working. He is full of enthusiasm about encouraging others to find what they are passionate about. In particular, he helps kids from all walks of life open up their minds to their

  • #77 – MUSICIANS – The Cohen Robinson Experience – 2016-05-20

    23/05/2016 Duración: 54min

It was such a pleasure to catch up with my 8th guests (Cohen Robinson, Patrick Watkins, and Myles “Trufe” Robinson) after watching them wow the crowd at the Sets in the West Neighborhood Block Party this past Friday off of 5th Avenue in Delray! Not only did they put on a fantastic show, but they also showcased an even wider variety of talent—this time including reggae (http://www.PaulAnthonyReggae.com) and spoken word (@ByrdPoetry) performers, a full band, and Uzi—a local rap artist who joined us on this episode. We last recorded a podcast back on December 20th, 2014 after they opened up for Vanilla Ice; and, to see how much their musicianship has continued to accelerate was phenomenal. There was a quintessential Florida storm brewing that caused a power outage and eventually cut the set short; but, these guys didn’t miss a beat or let the energy drop. They made what could have been a complete bummer into a really beautiful moment. This episode starts off in my car with Cohen and Uzi on our way to the post-p

  • #76 – Pod Squad – Netflix and Chill - 2016-05-10

    16/05/2016 Duración: 01h12min

What starts with a bunch of randomness involving a bushel-full of presents from our Scotty Fusion morphs into a CTC Pod Squad episode about one thing we do best: binge!! From Orphan Black and Breaking Bad to a minutes-long dissertation from Jay on the wonder that was Lou Ferrigno as the Incredible Hulk, the Pod Squad delivers laughs on the shows we love to binge watch. But, we don’t stop there. (What kind of binge session would THAT be?) We also talk about going hard on food and other delightful things. • #75 – NON-PROFIT – Darius Murray - 2016-05-03

    09/05/2016 Duración: 01h19min

My 75th episode was spent in the delightful company of Mr. Darius Murray, Clinical Mentoring Associate for FAU‘s CARD, or Center for Autism and Related Disabilities. His passion for helping the most vulnerable in our community was obvious from the start—particularly when he talks about CARD’s iRise2 Mentoring program, which pairs young protégés (ages 11-21 or 22) with mentors from all walks of life. We discuss what the autism spectrum is, particular challenges, the rising statistics, vaccines, and more. Darius has spent his life giving to others, having worked his way through the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, AmeriCorps, and Big Brothers Big Sisters previously. So, he definitely had a lot to share with me about the importance of volunteerism generally. Mostly, though, we talk about the iRise2 mentoring program. He is very clear that ANYONE can be a mentor (after passing a background check, of course!), and that current mentors come from all kinds of backgrounds, skillsets, and interests. And, if t

  • #74 – ENTREPRENEUR – Jeremy Pound - 2016-04-27

    02/05/2016 Duración: 01h31min

My guest in (yes, really the) 74th episode features my new “professional compass,” Jeremy Pound, the CEO of Juicy Results where I recently started as their Internet Marketing Coordinator. Juicy Results. Known as the “Internet marketing agency for the Fortune Five Million, Jeremy and his Juicy Results crew specialize in solid web design and maintenance, SEO, and social media marketing. In running his company, Jeremy maintains a keen focus on company culture, and has created one like I’ve never seen, including first-day champagne bottles, a four-legged receptionist named Jackson, and an emphasis on continuous learning. On my first day he introduced me to the Growth Mindset pioneer, Carol Dweck, by listening to her appearance on Bryan Allen’s podcast. It was astonishing to me how much I was able to connect with it, and I highly recommend that all of you listen to that on your next podcast binge. It’s a solid window into my “curvist” philosophy. Speaking of podcasts, Jeremy hosts his own called the New Customer

  • #73 – ARTIST AND PHOTOGRAPHER – Jamaal “Visualist” Clark – 2016-04-11

    25/04/2016 Duración: 01h05min

I met Jamaal “Visualist” Clark at an art event put on by Exhibit Treal a couple of weeks ago where he was photographing the evening. And, it turns out that he was also a painter who had lent a couple of pieces to the event—pieces that I LOVED. So, I was excited to have Jamaal on the podcast. We sat down and talked about a whole range of topics—from comic books to graffiti, film to digital, his time in school to being a teacher now himself. And, Jamaal was delightful throughout it all. He shared with me what the name “Visualist” means, the theme behind his heart, and what mark he wants to leave in the art world. • #72 – SPACE BRAINIAC – Barry Bohnsack - 2016-04-09

    18/04/2016 Duración: 01h28min

Barry Bohnsack, Finance and Program Planning expert for the Orion ALTO Program, joined me by phone for this truly special podcast—one that I’ve been looking forward to for a long time! Barry works for Lockheed Martin, which is contracted to help build the Orion spacecraft, NASA’s deep space craft. Orion is on the brink of making history, heading next to the dark side of the moon to test human capacity to survive these types of missions. Once successful, Orion will be headed on a manned mission to MARS! How cool is that?!?! Barry started out being into all things space and science at a very young age, and realized there was a path for him to parlay his business acumen into a career at the Kennedy Space Center. As an ambassador to the First Robotics Competition, Barry and I first met a few weeks ago, where stopped by to support my previous CTC Kids guests, the Poinciana Elementary School’s Taz Bots from episode 70. And, I was so excited when he agreed to be on. On this podcast, Barry and I talk about the histo

  • #71 – NON-PROFIT – JEFF DEMARIO - 2016-04-08

    11/04/2016 Duración: 51min

This week’s guest is Jeff DeMario, Chief Executive Officer of Vita Nova—West Palm Beach’s answer to the challenges kids face as they transition out of foster care and into adulthood. Through their services and programs providing housing, education, counseling, and life skills coaching, Vita Nova helps the kids in their organization through a lot of heart, hard work, and commitment. (Side note: Everyone should check out their life skills videos. They are awesome!!) “Vita Nova” means new life, and that is what this selfless group of people give to these kids—self-esteem and the desire and knowledge to become productive, social human beings through endless support and communications. Think back to when you were 18 and all the challenges you faced still finding yourself while also discovering the world. Add in hormones and other typical physical and social issues that you faced. Now, subtract the structured support system that you likely had. Chances are, you would not have fared so well. In fact, here are some

  • #70 – CTC KIDS – Poinciana Elementary’s Taz Bots (Lego League Kids) - 2016-03-29

    04/04/2016 Duración: 40min

I was DELIGHTED to meet with a group of kids who are competing in the First Lego League tournament circuit! Morgan Domeyer, Natasha Mayorga, Garrett Reardon, and Carsten Kjaerulff are from Poinciana Elementary and members of the “Taz Bots” team learning under the direction of their coach, Gloria Gibson. Each year, the FLL’s competitions focus on a different theme, and this year’s them is the Trash Trek Challenge. The kids and I discuss their recent competition in February, what world challenges they’ve been asked to think through and help tackle, the awesomeness that is Lego, what they like about robotics and coding, and more! They’ve earned their way to the next level of competitions happening in May: Morgan and Natasha are representing the team headed to the FLL Razorback International in Arkansas, while Garrett and Carsten are representing the team headed to the FLL Open European Championship in the Canary Islands, Spain. So, they have a LOT to look forward to with their upcoming trips and competitions! T
