Summary: Today we celebrate our 25th anniversary as a church family! Some of us have been here the entire time, some of us part of the time, some of us have come back for the celebration, and some of us are here for the first time. We continue 1 Kings with the account of the construction of the King's/king's house. Introduction: The temple was more than a building, but a picture of God's past relationship with his people, of his heavenly glory, and our future relationship with him. Ezra is now back in Jerusalem. At the onset, he encounters the problem of intermarriage which moves him to tear his garment, pull his hair, and sit down in shock & disappointment at this lack of faith. At a deeper level, this shows a lack of faith in God, his promises, and his commandments. The bigger problem isn't getting married to other tribes; but getting married to people whose allegiance is to other gods, which will turn the hearts of God's people away. That's why Ezra is greatly disturbed moving him to confess this sin in prayer. We continue 1 Kings this morning. Our world is full of anxiety, but our God has placed his Son on David's throne. Despite all the world/s schemes, he reigns! What king of king was Solomon? What kind of King is Jesus par excellence? Introduction: "Everybody wants to rule the world" but "My kingdom is not of this world" (John 18:36). *In Solomon's rule over Israel and the surrounding nations, we see a faint glimpse of that kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy of the Messiah. Tonight, I want to make a brief intro on learning the what, and how of the faith. TO KNOW WHAT WE BELIEVE, IS TO KNOW GOD TO KNOW WHY WE BELIEVE, IS TO LOVE GOD TO KNOW HOW TO DEFEND & SHARE WHAT WE BELIEVE, IS TO LOVE OUR NEIGHBOR

Ezra prepares for the trip to Jerusalem. He is guided by the Lord in a number of ways as we will see. A picture of the Christian life, the journey of faith in a number of ways. while we are in this journey of faith it is important to be certain about the Lord's guidance. Ezra and other Jews looked forward to the future hope which came with the Messiah. Now that the Messiah has come, God is gathering his people from all the corners of the earth. And he will guide us along the way in this pilgrim journey. He will carry us through. REVIEWING THE PEOPLE (vv.1-20) PROCLAIMING A FAST (vv.21-23) SETTING APART THE PRIESTS AND OFFERINGS ACCOUNTABILITY (vv. 24-30) ARRIVING IN JERUSALEM (vv. 31-36)

We begin 1 Klings this morning. It opens with an anxious time of succession to David's throne, reminding us of the anxieties we have in our world. What we learn today is the son of David sits on the throne and reigns over the kingdom despite all the world's schemes. Because of that, you can trust Christ, find rest from your anxieties, and have hope that the Lord's hidden hand of providence is over your life. THE DYING KING (vv. 1-4) THE USURPER KING (vv. 5-37) THE SUCCESSOR KING (vv. 38-53)

We indwell a frenetic world where we're tempted to "perform" for our own self-justification, leading to burnout. But God calls us in Psalm 90 to indwell a different reality- in fact, to make God our home.

This chapter in Isaiah praises God for his mighty acts. God judges those who do evil and he protects those who trust in him and say "you are my God." This points forward to the last day when God will swallow up death forever. He will save his people and wipe their tears from their eyes. God will be glorified on that day for having demonstrated his justice and mercy. GOD'S JUDGMENT ON THE WICKED GOD'S PROTECTION OF HIS PEOPLE GOD'S SALVATION FOR THOSE WHO TRUST IN HIM
